Give me a fucking break. Our climate is exact same as have city's in the majors. NY, Chicago, Minnesota, just to name a few.
Does that mean the fans would not would have been sitting in freezing weather the last two nights?

BTW, NYC is routinely 3 to 5 degrees warmer than Toronto.

Yes, that's exactly what it means, BTW, I'm sure Minnesota's is 3-4 degrees colder than TO.

Ok so my family held seasons tickets from 1983-1998. Saw about 15-20 games a year with those tickets. 3rd base side about 30 up from the dugout. Also would partake of bleacher seats in both parks 3-s times a year. Now I'll weigh in.

The dome is a much better facility than the old mistake by the lake. Better sightlines. Better for getting in and out of. Better atmosphere. April, beginning of may, september and october were horrible when the wind would come in. I don't miss watching games on a cold metal seat or bench in a parka. Better(athough more expensive) food it available now too.
It was the best chioce for the time period. A marvel in fact. Many other cities were jealous of us( in speaking with visitors around us). I remember the Baseball hall of fame even had a special display up to showcase it when I went to visit. And as has been said the roof has been copied.
Try going to Cleveland sometime for a game, or many other parks. We actually have it pretty good.
As for atmosphere........to paraphase.....

IF YOU WIN IT THEY WILL COME.........

This is very true. The whole key to baseball is bringing them in without a winner especially cause there is so many games.

It's all a matter of perspective. My dad and I were driving somewhere last week and they were talking about this very subject on the fan590. (What to do with the Rogers centre to improve it) The very fact that there was a whole show on it goes to show you that many people don't enjoy watching a game there. Anyway, the first words out if my old mans mouth was "I used love getting cheap tickets at A&P in the left field bleachers with all yahoo's". I instantly started laughing and told him how much I missed that at the Rogers centre.

Not to mention some of these nice new ball parks have retractable roofs like Milwaukee, Houston and Seattle.
Sort of like comparing apples to oranges since the Skydome was built before them.

This is exactly the type of pompous primadonna attitude why Americans make fun of us and we don't deserve n NFL team.
thank you for providing a stellar example of this behavior.

So the Rogers continues to dump money in an outdated stadium. They are apparently going to put real grass in there at some point too.

http://www.torontosun.com/2013/03/05/rogers-centres-windows-restaurant-no-more

Don't think they realize, doesn't matter how much you do it, it's the structer/design itself that has no atmoshpere or appeal.

Guess my dream of us ever getting a proper baseball stadium will never come true...lol.
The place is a sterile concrete monolith, but Rogers is actually trying. It's all we have for the time being, there isn't a new stadium on the horizon because there is no one to pay for it.
Skydump has a lot more character than it did when it was new, but it will never be a "ballpark".
Now about the half empty stadium for game 2 of this "championship" season.
hey you have to remember what Rogers paid for the dome. I t was almost a gift. They can afford to improve it and they sure aren't going to fork the bucks out to build a new one while the one is servicable

That's it exactly. There will never be enough support for baseball in Toronto to justify the expense of a baseball only retractable roof stadium. Make the best of it, lid open it's not that bad really.

.... Yes Fenway, Camden Yards and Comerica Park are all light years in awesomeness compared to that multi purpose facility but the money and the interest simply isnt in Toronto.
Fenway is a fuckin' dump. Cramped seats, zero legroom, incredibly tight concourses. Terrible washrooms, and a severe lack of them as well.

Camden & Comerica are awesome.

Fenway is not a dump. It's a classic, as is Wrigley. I would much rather see a ballgame there than Skydump.
Saw a game last September at Petco, very nice. Padres were well out of it, still a fun atmosphere with dedicated, knowledgable fans.
I also didn't have to mortgage my house for a beer.

Wrigley is also a dump. Incredibly cramped concourses, leaking pipes everywhere.
If Wrigley is such a classic, why does the Ricketts family (owners) have a $300,000,000 renovation proposal in front of Chicago city council?
Certainly not to improve upon a classic.

Tell me Biff, do you go to a ballgame because you like baseball? Or architecture?
Fenway has nearly been updated as much as it can be, and is still a great place for a ballgame. Wrigley has suffered neglect in recent years, but is also great to watch a game. When the renos are done it'll be amazing.
Purely as a baseball fan I care about the view from my seat above all else.

Well dik, I go to a ballgame for the game, but I don't want to stand in water (urine?) when taking a piss in the washroom during the 6th inning.
This is a regular occurance in Wrigley. Enjoy your cramped seats and no leg room in your classic stadiums all you want, I'll take comfort and modern plumbing every day.

The view from the seats I tend to purchase at Rogers Centre is fantastic. (200 level, between the bases).

I hope I've answered your questions, dik.

K, you've got me on the plumbing but.........

The seating at Skydump is cramped and uncomfortale.
Look up and you feel like you're in a planetarium 35% of the time.
Look out at the men playing on the rug.
Hell, for a modern stadium, the joint has about 15,000 obstucted view seats.

I much prefer the new ballparks, but ballpark is the operative word.
I too sit in good seats when I go to games, but IMHO Skydump is less pleasurable overall than Fenway or Wrigley.

Just don't wear sandals.....;)

^^^ bigdik makes some good points. I also think its time for a new stadium.

But I dont think Toronto will be ready for one for at least another 5 to 10 years

Count me in as voting "dump".

Saw Jays at Camden (nice park) last August. O's in the thick of it. Fans reminded me of a Skydome crowd.

Fenway has it's charm that non baseball die hards will never understand (90% of people in that hanger the Jays play in) The game and the stadium and it's history are the main attractions, you go to a Jays game and all the side show nonsense is torture, every 5 minutes it's "hey let's have a big hand for Coco the Dancing Monkey" "hey stand up and scream if you want a t-shirt".
