You must tell us which chart you are talking about. SWAT was the first television theme to hit #1 on Billboard which is the benchmark of music lists.
My Billboard book only lists songs from July 1955, but I just noticed that The Ballad Of Davy Crockett hit number one in March.
Good question fooled many of us.
However, Davy Crockett was not an actual television program. It was a miniseries shown during the Disneyland show.
So technically it was not a television theme song. It was a song from the show.
