My grandfather pretty much never understood why the German's invaded France. He remembers they had all kinds of propaganda moral reasons for it, but he never understood or even remembered the details. All he really had internalized was that foreign troops had invaded his country. Foreign troops carried loaded guns on his street and shot his friends and country men, and foreign troops dragged away people who were "not acceptable" to prison camps. (In his mind he remembers gypsies, intellectuals, jews, communists, and anyone who spoke out). And the invaders created a puppet government that was an extension of everything the invaders did.???

I bet at least for some people on the street in many countries share his visceral reaction to the invaders in their home.
The big difference is the winners get to record the facts as they see them.

Anyway, I generally do not support getting involved in civil wars such as Rawanda, Bosnia, Libya, Syria, Sudan, etc. When we bombed the Serbs in Kosevo we were siding with the Muslims against the Serbs in their civil war.
