How come Toronto pays so much more for gas than communities on the outside? On Wednesday afternoon gas in Scarborough was $1.31, but in Durham/Cobourg it was $1.25. The next morning it was $1.30 in Scarborough. The taxes wind up at the wrong level of government.
One solution certainly would be to give the city, which does a lot of road building, a share of the gas tax--but try getting the Federal and Provincial levels to agree to that.
i was in north bay paying 1.36$ on thanksgiving. How come Toronto pays so much more for gas than communities on the outside? On Wednesday afternoon gas in Scarborough was $1.31, but in Durham/Cobourg it was $1.25. The next morning it was $1.30 in Scarborough.
What gives?
Is it because the gas companies know they have a big market in Toronto and that the residents will not travel 75 km to get their fuel? (the amount of travel would cancel the money saved)
To me, something does not add up. The residents of Toronto are paying up to 5-7 cents more per liter - Why?
In reality, I am pointing out transit subsidies are commonplace and suggesting you ought to complain about the big subsidy you receive before complaining about small subsidies elsewhere.and here you are telling me i got got to pay for you. hypocrite.
And i am pointing out that i pay more than you. So until you catch up to me you can't tell me to pay more.In reality, I am pointing out transit subsidies are commonplace and suggesting you ought to complain about the big subsidy you receive before complaining about small subsidies elsewhere.
Sorry, but you're a moocher, I pay for you.And i am pointing out that i pay more than you. So until you catch up to me you can't tell me to pay more.
if i am a moocher you are just a useless bum.Sorry, but you're a moocher, I pay for you.
... One that pays your driving costs.if i am a moocher you are just a useless bum.
I pay more income tax every year than the average person earns in salary, so, I doubt it. But at the end of the day that's irrelevant--what matters is that you are using a service that is being paid for by the general taxpayer. It's FAR from user pay. The idea that the gas tax somehow covers road costs is ludicrous. It's paid for by property taxes in the city, and by income and sales taxes at the provincial level. Gas tax maybe, just maybe, covers the Federal governments much more modest expenses around the trans canada system.i pay more than you do.
i could argue that trucks shouldn't have to pay at all cuz you need us but that would be pointless and you wouldn't listen.I pay more income tax every year than the average person earns in salary, so, I doubt it. Subsidizing transit is, for better or for worse, what we have decided to do as a society, and as such, with the road system so HEAVILY subsidized, it makes no sense to complain about subsidies of better, more efficient systems that the public actually has an interest in developing.
On this we will agree. There is way too much bureaucracy at all levels of government that achieve absolutely nothing. To sweeten the pot, we could free up millions more by getting Ottawa and the provinces to terminate those useless 'human rights' commissions.
That is a good idea. How about we free up more than $1 billion per year for a national transit strategy by privatizing or terminating the CBC?

Everyone earning a wage is needed. That is what your salary is for, I don't get why you think you should mooch off the rest of us. So who else is entitled to mooch? How about hair stylists, do we need them? Do they get to mooch too? What about plumbers?i could argue that trucks shouldn't have to pay at all cuz you need us but that would be pointless and you wouldn't listen.
They balance it out with their TV coverage. But I like the CBC the way it is - other than their webpage - which is just a rah rah blog for the NDP.

To be fair most of Transit City was raised from the dead against his will, and the bigger regional plans are still plodding along with public, if not allocated, commitments to funding. The big problem is with a minimum 4 year delay in being really able to plan for the local 'next steps'. The current plans mostly help draw in the burbs, and mitigate the worst problems in the city, but are still decades behind what are needed. The election of Rob Ford has put everything on hold. We'll have to wait til we get a non-moron as mayor, then adopt a transit plan that is logical and practical for the future needs and the present day fiscal reality ( in conjunction with the province )
Replace the TTC and privatize. Get rid of the unions and slash wages. Use that money to upgrade the stations with heat, in the wintertime and sliding glass door barriers between the subway and passenger platform (prevent jumpers). Have on duty security to deal with altercations on the platform and to respond faster to in subway altercations. Improve subway traffic algorithms to manage rush hour traffic and minimize delays. Pay subway drivers $10/hr for sitting there to talk on their cellphones while they push a lever. Drug test the bus drivers like they do in the States. No Bus driver should be smoking weed, high or be drunk while operating a bus in traffic. Pay private companies for competitive contracts for TTC maintenance and have that maintenance done off hours, rather than at rush hour or during the day. Pay those people overtime for working those hours and sparing rush hour time delays.
Get rid of all the retarded TTC employees and replace them with educated college grads not related to anyone in the TTC, eliminate nepotism. It's clear that most of the TTC belong to the same retarded family from Oshawa for some reason, and they all seem to have an IQ of 90.
That 1% tax will not go to the customer in reduced fares. It will go to politicians and the TTC Union. Fares will still go up.
