Well I have done/do quite well in many different restaurants using the M.O. of 'serve everyone the way I want to be served, and I will maximize my income no matter if they are a good tipper or bad one'.
congrats on doing well u seem to have a good outlook on the situation, however i highly doubt u r maximizing your income by treating everyone the same, time constraints refrain u from treating everyone the same and force u to choose your priorities.

Actually, it's the boss (both on-site and in the form of government) that talks upon hire; making you sign tip-out ageements and offering a wage 'below minimum'.

So why are you such a huge tipper?
so you sign the agreement, that is still not the customers problem. you want a decent wage do something about it. i would suggest a strike but anyone can do it so that wouldn't really help at all. so i guess you are fucked cuz you are non skilled. no other job depends on tips for a person to live. you are incredibly replaceable that is why you have to deal with it.

i do big tips cuz i know it gets me served quicker. i tend to become a regular at places i go if i like them or they have something i like, i eat out a lot. so after the first 1 or 2 times i go there it gets around i leave about 30-40% for a tip and you would be surprised how quick i get my shit.

Strike? No union.

Unskilled? I (as do some of my co-workers) hold a Master's Degree.

If you were to go back and read all of my responses on this topic you would see that I have consistently said:

- The current system of tipping favours the customer as most establishments do not stand for servers displaying their displeasure of a 'shit tip'. Therefore, the customer can leave what he/she wants and the server will/can do anything about it.

- If the service has been sub-par and the tip reflects that, I do not feel sorry for the server; they have to step up their game.

- We don't know for certain what a fair wage for servers would be if tipping was removed. However, I would assume that the cost of an increased wage, as well as the attached benefits and dues (e.g. CPP and maybe even unions), would be passed on to the customer. Perhaps in the form of a service charge (a.k.a. a legally forced form of tipping).

- I am in favour of servers tipping out to waged staff that enhance thier job and/or the customer experience. But not those who are paid a salary or profit (i.e. management and owners).

- While the industry is moving to an '18% norm' I have always believed that 15% is fair. However, the increase is likely due to the increase in standard tip-out to support staff.

tip should be a bonus on top of the wage. not half of the wage. no other industry is run like that. if you want a full wage you go talk to your boss. the more i hear people cry the less i feel like tipping and shockingly i am a huge tipper.
tips r not walf of your wage they refleft a much larger percent of your income

cool then do something with it that pays you a decent wage instead of what you are doing. right now you are unskilled, don't care what degree you have. you are a food bringer anyone can do that. there will never be a union cuz a boss can replace his entire staff in under a day. your profession as a whole is replaceable.

take some of that income and go to school with it. not university or college either, you should go back to grade school and start with learning how to spell.

Thanks for the advice, but I'll do the job that is most profitable.

Or learning how to write with proper capitalization and punctuation. Not a grammar officer, but you brought it up.

i know all about capitalization and punctuation. this is an internet forum it has different rules, if i was writing a book it would be different but it's not. his spelling is atrocious and needs to be better but it explains why he is a food bringer.

i never say a thing about grammar or capitalization. spelling is a basic thing we all learned very young. it is something we all know. you are educated, as am i. we both know the difference between good and bad and how to do it and how not to. from his post you can see that it is not a random mistake, everyone makes random mistakes. that was not random.

well then how about you quit crying. good job wasting that degree as well.
Thank you. Is that what you tell SPs who advertise as 'educated' but choose another line of work.

I repeat: It's amusing having this argument on an escort review board where the focus is reviewing workers who do an 'unskilled' job for relatively large compensation.

IMHO, capitalization and spelling are hand-in-hand. 'I' is correct. 'i' is mispelled. As is capitalizing the first letter in a sentence a proper spelling requirement. Personally, i don't care. You mentioned it.

What 'you', 'I', 'we', or 'they' know is subjective.

i don't see sp's for any reason, nor do i insult them. they actually are skilled at what they do. being a good fuck and creating a personal connection quickly is a skill. carrying food to a table is not a skill. they get the large compensation because they are providing a very intimate service. you are unskilled because carrying food is not a skill. comparing yourself to them and what they do is just laughable.

So then why on TERB? For the conversation?

The level of skill required is debatable. I'm not trying to insult anyone. Just pointing out a debatable point. You consider it as a skill because you place a certain value on it. You don't value the work (skillful or not) of a waiter so you degrade its value. Both are fair opinions but you are not forced to support either business. I'd suggest you try doing either one for a living, but you never have, or will, since they are both 'beneath you'.

No problem. I make typos all the time. I just don't feel the need to tell anyone to go back to school.
