No one ever said you did not, nor that you shouldn't.

The question was: If Canada is such a cesspool of racism why on earth are you still in Toronto?
because Toronto is diverse

There you go again, giving people advice on where to live. Actually, racism is alive and well in Canada. If you knew a bit more of Canada you would know that Canada has a proud history of discrimination against all kind of non wasp people.

Some of you guys are completely freaking me out.

From what I understand:

1. The kid was unarmed

2. The kid was just walking home through a gated community in Florida.

3. The kid was minding his own business.

4. The kid wasn't threatening anyone.

Unless the above facts are incorrect, I cannot fathom in a million years of sundays why he was shot and killed?

There is no justification for this.

It's insane.

Racism may be alive and well in Canada, but not nearly to the extent CM suggests it is.

Someone tried to justify the shooting on this thread?

Where?

Now let's add some things to all this.

1. George found the kid to be suspicious for whatever reason(s).

2. He followed him, even though the police told him not to.

3. Did the kid continue to walk even though being followed or did he turn around and confront George with or without attitude?
If without attitude, then yes, George is guilty.
If with attitude and he was threatening and George felt threatened and that his life was in danger, then George was protecting himself; under law, he has the right to do so.

4. We need to wait and see if and when any more details emerge from all this.

You've over simplified it with details we seem to know, but how much do we NOT know?

It is none of Aardies damn business.

Why not? It's a public forum. We talk about America and American politics very openly and we're not from the U.S.

Agreed.

However, things are starting to appear that suggest otherwise. If they are true, it does change everything.

Love this shot.

Slap a hoody on that kid, with a little attitude and you got yourself a thug.
Glad they made this page....
Relevance?

On the shooting, we'll have to wait for a legal decision on the case.

On the topic of this thread, Geraldo is an idiot for blaming the hoodie. Millions of rich white kids (likely including many in this gated community) wear them without problem. Zimmerman was obviously interested in this kid for some reason - unknown kid wandering the area at night might be a reasonable cause for a neighbourhood watch in a closed community to take notice - but saying the hoodie was the reason is quite transparently saying the reason was a young black man on the street.

Reports say that the kid - after being followed and possibly harassed - did get into a physical altercation with Zimmerman.

Doesn't change that Geraldo's comments are idiotic or that Zimmerman wannabe cop attitude in following a black kid around is problematic.

Did you read what Mr. Rivera said? Saying to your cousin you shouldn't wear a see through dress without any underwear at one o'clock in the morning walking through a horrible neighbourhood is not the same as saying it is the woman's fault.

Yet blaming it on extremely common style of clothing among anyone under 50 (60?, 70?) is an idiotic excuse for saying he was dressed like an urban black youth and therefore deserved suspicion.

I'm a white professional closing in on 40 and I have easily a half dozen hoodies.

One thing I've learned on Terb is that it is really important to make a decision about events as quickly as possible instead of waiting for as many facts as possible.

The goal seems to use as little objectivity as possible and make judgements on preconceived beliefs.

Almost sounds like prejudice.
