Geraldo Rivera blames Trayvon Martin’s death on his hoodie

Yet blaming it on extremely common style of clothing among anyone under 50 (60?, 70?) is an idiotic excuse for saying he was dressed like an urban black youth and therefore deserved suspicion.

I'm a white professional closing in on 40 and I have easily a half dozen hoodies.

It's an image thing. If you were a 16yr old white kid wearing a hoodie as we all picture teens do, we'll assume they're walking with a limp, pants half way down, etc....
I understand Geraldo's point, but like I said earlier, timing is really bad.

Did you read what Mr. Rivera said? Saying to your cousin you shouldn't wear a see through dress without any underwear at one o'clock in the morning walking through a horrible neighbourhood is not the same as saying it is the woman's fault.
You're doing it again. You're implying that what this boy was wearing was as outrageous and dangerous as your example. It wasn't anywhere near. He was wearing a common item of clothing, walking in a supposedly good neighborhood, and minding his own business.

Just watching the news and apparently....

Trayvon jumped George from behind when George turned around walking back to his car, pumping him in the head and then smashing it into the sidewalk.
Other eyewitnesses said they saw this happen.

2 women who lived in the area, ran out of their homes to the whimpers and cries and saw George straddling Trayvon's back.

So obviously more and more details are coming out now.

No, I'm implying that what you wear may make a difference as to how others perceive you. It doesn't matter if how they perceive you is prejudiced you are just as dead. That was Mr. Rivera's point don't wear something that makes other people perceive you in a way you don't want to be perceived.

I thought Mr. Rivera's point was that if this boy had been wearing a crisp clean button down shirt and nice pants he'd still be alive. Because he'd be towing the line. Beyond that, do you really think that this Zimmerman would have followed and acosted a white kid wearing what Trayvon Martin was wearing that day?

Although is is not entirely the case, I really don't care what Mr. Zimmerman might have done or might not have done. I believe Mr. Rivera's comment went beyond this one case.

Regretably I'm put in mind of the safe driving campaign of a number of years ago: "don't be right, dead right."

For a lawyer, you have the oddest way of changing the direction of a topic to something that doesn't apply. No, I'm wrong, that's entirely like some lawyers.

As much as I support police, here is an example of stupid cop and moreover a terrible human.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A New Orleans police officer who was placed on desk duty following a shooting has been suspended for posting a comment on a local television station's website about the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin.

Officer Jason Giroir identified himself as a New Orleans Police Department employee when he wrote, "Act like a thug die like one!" in response to a WWL-TV article about a rally supporting Martin.

Martin was fatally shot last month by a neighborhood watch volunteer.

Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas announced Monday that Giroir has been suspended indefinitely without pay.

Giroir was under investigation for his role in the March 1 on-duty shooting death of a 20-year-old man.

Seriously let the family mourn the loss of a child. Eventually the truth will be told and some sort of justice will prevail.

I'm certain that Trayvon's parents will bring a civil suit against Zimmerman. Why?, because it's the American way!

Who knows what transpired prior to the shooting, and we'll never know Trayvon's side of the story.

Another reason for gun restriction, Zimmerman (Paul Blart) a courtyard cop with an internet badge and ICS certificate just killed someone. Oh wait a minute, Zimmerman is a neighbourhood watch guy, so why didn't he just watch and call police to this gated community. If Trayvon and his father were shooting hoops would Zimmerman shoot them both? Maybe? They are black.

To me, the wrongs are:
Zimmerman with a gun.
Zimmerman given any type of neighbourhood watch authority.
Police chief not investigating immediately.
Gated communities.

Guns are the enemy.
Stupid people with guns are the bigger enemy.

Looks like the kid jumped Zimmerman and was pounding him!

I'll be first to admit it. I was wrong.

He did not die because of his hoodie. No!

He died because he was acting like a thug...beating up good citizens, who in turn defended himself as the law allowed him.

One less gangster in the world. Good for Zimmerman!

so juvenille offenders deserve execution?...the kid didn't have a gun..Zimmerman did.
That doesn't mean that there may not be much more to the story.

It is also interesting to me that for whatever reason the press has been showing an almost five year old photograph of Trayvon Martin, which I believe has helped shape this discussion.

we shall see..also like to add having the sherriff and police make statements supporting Zimmerman, before an investigation seems questionable.

btw isn't there tape of Zimmerman telling the cop" he's gonna get the c**n"?
No, what there is, is a recording of a 911 call in which a voice (presumably Zimmerman's) says something - not into the telephone, which may or may not have been that phrase, I believe to have any clarity on the issue the recording will have to be sent to a sound lab.

Not to mention..as he pounded Zimmerman..there is a likeliehood that Zimmerman may have gone unconscious, his gun removed and shot with his own gun! An awful thing.

This is just another thug...a black thug...going out and picking on a good citizen.

Thank goodness he was a neighborhood watch guy. We need more of those.

Good riddance to the thug!
