Toronto Maple Laughs will finally get to play in an outdoor game

It looks like the Toronto Maple Laughs will finally get to play in an outdoor game.

Mlive.com is reporting that the NHL, the Detroit Red Wings, and the University of Michigan have finalized a deal that will see Michigan Stadium host the 2013 Winter Classic game between the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Laughs.

As you all may remember, nos Habitants have already played in two outdoor games. They played in both Heritage Classic games (2003 in Edmonton and 2011 in Calgary).

Laughs vs. Red Wings Hardly Qualifies As A Classic

Laughs vs. Red Wings Hardly Qualifies As A Classic

Extract:
"And let's face it: the Leafs have been so long out of the loop as an actual hockey playing force, it's hard to imagine a large chunk of America's sports viewing public turning eagerly to a match that features a team that last won the Cup when most TVs were still black and white."

Hi Les.

I don't think the US would care which Canadian team it was. Their passion is NFL and NBA, not a winter classic. Its a Canadian thing, and Toronto fans are present in every city the Leafs visit on the road. It should be a great match up. True Toronto is no force, but they improve constantly under Burke.

I'm unsure if the playoffs are even possible now, the last three losses were very tough to take. But the next four games are much better odds and a chance to push back into a playoff spot. The key is to be positive and not jump all over Toronto now they lost a couple.
One season you have the Habs riding Halak deep into post season, now they are in the basement. Ottawa starts out this year slow, now they catch fire and have all the confidence in the world.

I'm sure Burke will make a trade before months end to improve Toronto even more. If Ryan Miller pulls a Patrick Roy, anything is possible as to where he went. Myself, I'd like to see Burke pick up Getzlaf, see what happens with Miller, and in the off season bring in Randy Carlyle despite the extension to RW.
Kathleen don't leave out other American past-times such as:
MLB, War in the middle east-or anywhere else, Bill Clinton's sexual escapades and Tabloid papers. Randy Carlisle would be a great catch as coach.

The only comment I can't agree on is Burke's constant improved of the team, they're 9th right now! Sure my Habs are 12th and have been really bad all season, but they're still only 7 points behind those TMLs or 3 spots back of them.

There's so many log-jams right now, the bottom 5-13 in both conferences are still up in the air.

If the playoffs started today, only Ottawa & Vancouver would represent Canada.

On another note, Kathleen, you're wonderful in the bourdoir

Maple Laughs Get Hammered, Again

This has got to hurt …

The Toronto Maple Laughs have now lost 4 games in a row (vs. Winnipeg, Philadelphia, nos Habitants, and Calgary), and have had 10 goals scored against them and have managed to score only 1 goal in the last two games.

What a way to start a road trip.

They're The Same Old Laughs

They're The Same Old Laughs

Toronto's playoff run goes down in flames after a 4-15-2 late-season skid

Extract from article:

"Which means that in some essential way, these are the same old Leafs. The faces and birth certificates have changed, sure. They always do, like the waxing and waning of the moon. They are younger, to be sure. They have more recognizable prospects in the pipeline, if no more can't-miss stars. There is reason for relative optimism if you want to find it, depending on what you define as optimism.

This season, in its own way, was worse. This season the Leafs put themselves in a position to play games that mattered, in a league where the playoff race begins months before the end, and they simply collapsed. They collapsed without a truly devastating injury, like the ones endured by Pittsburgh or Philadelphia. Phil Kessel has not missed a game. Neither has Dion Phaneuf.

But they went into a comprehensive free fall that got the coach fired. It was an astonishing display of frailty, really, and it wasn't just the goaltenders, which have always been Brian Burke's hockey Achilles heel. If these Leafs can't handle the pressure of a playoff race, or lack the leadership or ability to pull themselves out of a death spiral ... well, what's really been built here?

Tuesday night, the Air Canada Centre was a dead place as the game began, with something approaching half the seats in the lower bowl unoccupied; it wasn't just the grey platinum seats that house the men in suits who amble out fashionably late. It was everyone."

Attempting to shift the focus onto another topic by no means indicates that the original statement isn't an obvious fact.

I'm surprised you would even deign to comment in a thread dedicated to such an uncouth and pedestrian sport like hockey
Shouldn't you be sipping Johnnie Walker Blue and be banging a 20-year old Chinese immigrant who can't speak a word of English?

I get around.
I am certain that Leafs owners and management feel the season is long enough. They do not want to extend their work days beyond the regular schedule and therefore have no interest in putting together a team that would get into the playoffs causing extra paperwork to deal with, overtime hours, and interfere with their vacation plans.

Maple Laughs - Countdown

Maple Laughs - Countdown :cheer2:

There's a countdown going on in Toronto.
But it's not the countdown to the NHL Post-Season.
It's the countdown to Golf Season for the Maple Laughs.

Cheap Tickets for Maple Laughs vs. nos Habitants

I'm in la belle ville de Montréal this holiday week-end visiting with family, and some of us may go down to le Centre Bell to watch nos Habitants beat the befuddled Toronto Maple Laughs in the final game of the regular season tonight.

The result of tonight's game doesn't really count for anything, but given the lack of demand for tickets to see the Maple Laughs play, I'm sure it'll be easy getting tickets just before the game starts.
