He speaks up for Canada without apology and that is why some do not know how to handle it, so they take the safe road and criticize him.
He is still sought after by companies for for both radio and TV commercials and he just turned 78 years(Feb 5) of age.
He still enjoys the game of hockey. Still loves to come out to the rinks, meet and greet the fans and Canadians of all ages just cannot get enough. Did you see the young kid, about eight years old, dressed like Don on Saturday, CBC's Hockey Day. Yes, Don noticed him and shock his hand.
Cherry has had his HNIC gig since 1981, 31 years, and it is the highest rated spot on Canadian TV.
For several years Cherry had his own show on TSN(I think). It was a half hour show and Don would chat with his guests.
He still has, in addition to HNIC, a radio gig every day on the FAN590. It is picked up by various radio stations across the country to the tune of about 1,000,000 listeners. Yes one million.
In 1989 he began his highly successful 'Rockem Sockem' videos and they are still going strong today.
We voted him seventh in 'The Greatest Canadian' TV show, a CBC program in 2004.
Of course he has a chain of restaurants, began in 1985 in Hamilton and now in six provinces. Don Cherry's Sports Grill.
Most of all he is a very strong supporter of the military and police.

Ga-damn ! Not bad for a guy with almost no education. Way to go Don. I wish you many, many more years.

I watched Hockey Day on CBC.
A whole bunch of Canadians of all ages were clamouring around him.
He is the star attraction everywhere he goes in this country.
You can count me among the majority of proud Canadians who appreciate him, just like the companies who have him as their spokes person.

this pretty much sums up how I feel about the clown, he represents the worst of Canada that wishes it was still 1950 and everyone looked and talked like him. That's the trouble with these nut jobs they fantasize about some glorious past that never really existed except in their tiny minds. Also to call his 4 minute segment where he rants a "radio show" is a total stretch, it's always some stupid story about something that happened in 1971 that he can recall.
