that is just ridiculous... five-year expired my ass. A crime is a fucking crime. When evidence is found that someone killed another person, regardless of how much time has passed, the criminal is charged!! Why is assault on a young girl any different? There is no better evidence than video... its not like too much time has passed that the authorities cannot go collect fingerprint samples etc. Its not fucking needed in such a case. Our justice system can be wack sometimes.
No we got the statutes of limitations for good reasons. If he was charged today then he be tried by a jury who views might be different today then back when the crime was committed.

Yeah hes a jerk for hitting anybody like that but respect the law.

Too bad the USA doesn't. I heard now the federal prosecutors are looking to see if any federal crimes have been broken. That is the USA for you, if they think your are guilty they try to hang you, fairly or not it doesn't seem to matter.

If the victim wanted to jail her father so bad--which she claims not to--then she should not have waited 7 years.

It should be up to the victim also.

Its funny how her mom is now the daughters good friend, the mom was as bad as the father for going along with it. Where was her trying to stop him? She was right there with another belt. The daughter should tell both of them to go to hell.

I didn't read all 7 pages but has anybody supported this father for hitting his 16 year old daughter?

I see all the time folks making remarks that kids today are messed up cause the parents don't spank their kids enough. Then when shit like this video comes out I see nobody defending the parents.

My imagination is good enough, I didn't need to see it. Keep in mind that this kind of thing happens all over the place all the time. It's not simply an isolated incident, it's an example of a broader phenomenon.

I don't believe there is a statute of limitations for murder. And while this Judge may escape any charges due to the Statute of limitations, this case is getting a lot of publicity, so who knows there may be a movement to change those laws.
Correct. No SOL for murder. This is why even Nazi war criminals can be put away when their 90. This is why nobody would confess writing a book that they did Jimmy Hoffa, etc. etc.

problem these days is that kids are not afraid of their parents and show no respect to authority or their elders. a spank goes a long way in showing your kids respect. a belt is a tad excessive, just an open hand spank. kids get older move the spank to a slap. no need to beat the shit out of them though.

Thus perpetuating the cycle of abuse.

It's because his actions were indefensible. First of all, I think the whole issue of 'oh kids today don't know what discipline is' is overstated to the nth degree. Also, what the father did in the video, was not 'spanking'. It was abuse, in every sense of the word. Physical. Emotional. Mental. No one lashes a 16-year repeatedly and orders her to turn the fuck around unless he has much deeper issues than just 'disciplining' There is a vast difference between a parent spanking a child once or twice, calmly, rationally because that child has disobeyed or disrespected their parents, and what this judge did, screaming incoherently and beating his daughter like a psychopath. Again, I firmly believe that there are many ways to discipline a kid before resorting to force, but I can theoretically accept there are isolated cases where a firm spank might do some good. However this was not rational, or calm, or anything approaching rational

what i'd like to know is what did you do to deserve this? don't tell me for getting on the internet and downloading a game
Are you sticking up for his parents? As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing a little kid could do that would ever justify the way he was treated.

How old was she when he did this? 16-17? She's basically a grown woman. This isn't child abuse. Spanking a mature teenaged daughter is a whole different kind of creepy. When you add in the fact that she's disabled, it certainly is a disgraceful way to behave.

I hope the public shaming hurts.

Mom could have called Children's Aid and the cops and fled to a Women's Shelter. She made the choice to stay and be an enabler.
While this is true, and while it does not absolve her of criminal liability, if she's being beaten too, it seriously mitigates her crime. Victims often don't do what they should, for well known psychological reasons.

nope cuz my dad and step dad beat me, pretty good actually. i learned from it and never did the shit again. i got 2 kids now and i only had to spank one of them once. they never have acted up since. the problem with when i got it is that i wasn't told why i was getting it. i did it, then sat with my kid and explained why it happened and what not to do in order for it to never happen again. also my kids don't lie or try to sneak shit past me.

he said my dad and step dad laying a beating on me, would warp me to beat on my kids. i was more saying it is the opposite and if you take the time to explain to the kids why they are being punished, they understand more. spank is by far the most extreme punishment out there. my kids are also both under 10. also by saying spank i don't mean over the knee and smash there ass 5-10 times, i just mean a single whack. my daughter just joined the reading club at school and spends her second recess everyday reading and my son gets the weekly "best helper" award from his teacher. so that one spank i gave 1 kid a few years ago, must have done something right. i can also say that after i did it and explained to the kid why i did it, i went for a drive in my car, found a dead end street and broke down cuz it fucking killed me to do it.

now i have not read he article or anything but it would seem from the outrage on here that the judge laced a beating on his kid and that ain't right and he should be put up on charges for sure.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not telling you how you should raise your children. All I stated is I don't agree with ANY spankings. I did ONCE when my son was two years old and he tried to stick tweezers in the light socket, I smacked his hand away while yelling "no!" I dived towards him doing somersaults along the way mind you...That was the ONLY time. My children are ahead in their development and are straight A students also. They are not into drugs/drinking/dating (THANK GOD).. and we joke all the time. They know when I am not joking by the seriousness in my eyes and I explain to them I am not happy about something...they draw the line and listen. I didn't have to spank them for them to respect me...because I respect their feelings. I'm not saying your way is wrong Simon...it's just different and we all are entitled to that. I respect that you had felt badly after that one spank and I am sure you are a good parent. :) That video btw, was HARD for me to watch...I thought it was a skit at first to send a message, but then after I was horrified to see that it was real. Stuff like that happens too much. This can go both ways tho...MEN are sometimes beaten like this by their wives/girlfriends/whoever....I am working on a project that MORE help will be given to men who are abused...open shelters, help lines, etc....

Just like Simon, you made an exception to the general rule and only spanked in an extreme situation.

Spanking can be justified in certain circumstances, was affirmed by the Supreme Court of Canada, and is legal.
