Jays getting closer

Going into tonight the Jays' magic number for clinching the wild card is down to 26.

In other words Toronto makes the wild card very simply, by winning its' last 13 games and hoping Boston loses 13 out of their last 14.

They are well on their way as Boston is down 9-1 in the 7th.

Pssshaw to Tampa. Jays' magic number for them is only 20 and Boston is now down to 25.

Rockslinger mentioned Lawrie reminded him of Pete Rose. J.P. Arencibia reminds me of Gary Carter.

Why can't Brandon Morrow pitch like this everyday:confused:?
He sure was on his game today. Lets hope he continues that way from now on.
One thing I noticed today he rarely pitches inside. Outside of one to A-Rod I don't recall seeing a good hard inside pitch.
I think he has to let teams like NY and Boston know he will come inside. Players get too comfortable at the plate when the fear element isn't there.

Was it the same Homeplate umpire as last nights game ? when rivera was pitching , there was a pitch easily 3-4 inches off the plate and he called it a strike . . .

No.

Umpires rotate position game by game.

Yesterday's home plate umpire was at 3rd base today.

That was weird. Trumbo ran back to first base via right field. Sort of like a football receiver who runs out of bounds and then back into the field of play again.

What is the rule for a baserunner caught in a rundown? Can he dash off to right field and then make a left turn into center field before trying to make it back to a base (any base)?

Any runner is out when --
(a) (1) He runs more than three feet away from his baseline to avoid being tagged unless his action is to avoid interference with a fielder fielding a batted ball. A runner's baseline is established when the tag attempt occurs and is a straight line from the runner to the base he is attempting to reach safely; or after touching first base, he leaves the baseline, obviously abandoning his effort to touch the next base;

The key here is that E.E. did not attempt to tag him.

Had E.E. swiped at the runner, he would (may have) been called out.

I thought it was obvious that Trumbo ran into right field to avoid being tagged. Why else would a baserunner run into right field? I think EE was trying to tag him, but how do you tag a guy who runs 25 feet into right field? Would love to see the replay again.

Brett Lawrie broke his finger before the game fielding ground balls. Out 4-6 weeks. Tough season on his hands. Has 150 at bats this season, making him not eligible for ROY next season.
