How do you hide the hobby?

I've been an on-again, off-again hobbyist for about 15 years now.

When I was single, no problem. But now that I'm married, it's become pretty tough to indulge and keep it from the wife.

Don't get me wrong -- I love my wife and feel guilty cheating on her, and part of me wishes I could give it up. But when I walk down Yonge St. and see those sexy young women in short shorts and tank tops -- the urge comes rushing back. And I can only ignore it for so long. For me at least, biology trumps fidelity.

But because we have a single bank account, it's very tough for me to indulge. I can hide it amongst other expenses every now and then, but I'm not able to indulge nearly as often as I'd like to.

So any suggestions? How do other guys with a shared bank account pull it off?

First of all, if you really loved your wife, you wouldn't cheat on her - I am talking about real love, not love as it is in the modern 2011 era.

Now, onto answering your question.

The best way to do this is through car expenses. When you get the car fixed, add a couple of hundred dollars to the repair and tell her it cost x+$300 for the repair (x represents the actual amount you paid for the repair).

Other suggestions include asking your wife for cash and claiming to her that you have run out and don't wish to go to the bank. Beforehand though, purchase the item you claim that you want to buy and keep it somewhere until after she gives you the money. Return home, show her the item you had already bought earlier and voila - you just created extra cash flow for yourself.

Good grief, that seems a little cold even by my standards.

OP needs a legit hobby, golf is good for explaining away both time and money.

Pay for everything you can with a debit card, most places will let you get cash back. An extra $30-$40 here and there will add up.

Get a hobby phone, and don't keep anything incriminating in your wallet.

I'm sure Fuji will have a lot more advice for you, apparently he's good at this stuff. :p

When I was married, I had a separate bank account to buy personal shit with. I would take $200 a month and deposit it there. She did the same thing. We would spend it on guilt-free stuff without having to explain. She would buy mag wheels, I would buy guitars and go to the casino. This was before I hobbied but it should work.

The minute this guy says to his wife that he wants a separate account, he will lose her trust. If he always had a separate account from the day they met or married, then such a situation would be fine.

Sorry, no, that is not my ass. None of the pics I post are actually me.

I never worked in the industry, I fell down the rabbit hole as a client and just never left the boards.

I forgot to say don't keep incriminating stuff in your car, either. And I agree with mb12ca, it's too late to do the separate accounts thing now.

Can't agree. Everyone is different, what works for some may not work for others. I love my wife with a passion that's even greater than when we were first married, and the sex is great. I'm constantly fondling her whenever she's within reach, which she is still very receptive and responsive to, and when I occasionally run a jerk-off fantasy through my mind it involves her. We are not just sex partners but best friends, doing almost everything together because we have the same interests.

But I don't want to drag this off-topic, so I'll leave it there.

How often do you hobby? That is, how much do you need in 'extra' cash each month?

The best thing will be to just get an extra $20-$50 every time you go to an ATM or cash back at the grocery store.

There is no way you love your wife, are also best friends with her and cheat on her with sp's.

+1!!! I cannot wait for your next posting entitled "oh shit my wife caught me with an sp, what do I do?" you married or guys with a gf and screwing around are pathetic, you all gone about how you love your wives yet sleep around, lie and cheat. Continue to do it, as I quite enjoy the threads when one of the lying losers gets caught.

Oh fertheloveofPete, the dude isn't looking to be judged. He posted to learn how to hide expenses, not to be told he's not in love with his wife.

Leave the judgemental moralizing shit behind. If that's your thing, maybe you should be posting on iVillage.

It's easy to say you love your wife, those are just words.
Your actions indicate you're dishonest with her and you know she'd be devastated if she found out yet you continue. That's not love.

To answer the ops question.

Cashback for $
hobby phone for calling.
Your own computer/ smartphone for hobby related websurfing, and still delete all history
Never ever save / write down phone #s
Be reasonable, dont binge, dont get addicted.
Hobby on your own time, dont do weird stuff to create time for a hobby date. Avoid te need to "make up a story" to anyone (including friends, coworkers...)

Thats all i can think of.
