was at the game yesterday afternoon......Stewart threw a great game....See how he makes out after another start or two.
Defence is awful. We gotta get a third baseman, that is one big hole, Davis in center, not working, he stopped in front of a fly
that dropped between 3 guys. It was his and he should have had it. That stuff is taught at the pee wee level.
Oh yeah and what is with the price of friggin beer at the dome? $10.00 plus per can, Beeston can shove that up his keester.

Damn I actually miss Gregg, can't believe I'm saying that.
Are closers groomed in the minors or are they identified at the major league level?

I have always placed the role of a quality closer as one of the key pieces to a championship team.

Back in the late 80's early 90's the tandem of Henke & Wardo was second to none (at the time). It, along with other parts, resulted in two WS.

Oakland had Eckersley, the Yankees had Rivera...

Looking back (the past 15 years) on the starting pitching rich Braves, they never had that dominant closer guy. Despite great regular saeasons, they only came away with one WS and that was basically a coin flip in extra innings against the Indians.

Too bad the Jays do not have that stud to come in to the game in the last inning. No doubt they would be in better shape at this point in the season.

Useless projections

Bautista is on pace to hit 57.5 home runs.

Jays magic number to win the division is 84. Too bad they only have 71 games left.

What is amazing is that he is also hitting .330 and his on base percentage is north of 1. Plus, he is handling success with humility and maturity. Maybe he appreciates it so much more because success came late in baseball life at age 29.

Bautista is carrying this team. without him it isn't even mediocre.
The bullpen sucks.15 blown saves to date.

I wonder what the record is for blown saves in a season?

I'd bring up Danny Farquhar from Vegas. He can't do any worse can he?

the Jays 15 blown saves breaks down as follows: Camp 1 Fraser 2 Perez 2 Rauch 3 Rzepczynski 3 Francisco 4.
Brandon League(remember him?) has 23 saves to lead the AL with 4 blown saves.
I'm not sure if you bring Farquhar up, if he's not really ready leave him in Vegas til Sept.
Jansen is rehabbimg in the minors, he will help when he returns.(hopefully)

Here
BJ's have had 35 save opportunities... can you imagine where they would be if they had converted 28 or 29 of them instead of only 20?

About 51/40 [a couple of those blown saves became wins] and right in the thick of the pennant chase...

The one thing that has been consistent about the BJ's this year and over the past few years is inconsistency.

I don't understand what it is that so many talented players underperform in Toronto?!

I don't know the stats, but some of those blown saves still became wins, such as Rauch on Friday or Saturday. He blew the save but got the win when Bautista homered in the 10th.

What is even more amazing is that SI picked Gonzales of the Bosox as MVP to this point of the season.

Seeing as Boston will make the playoffs and the Jays not, Bautista will have to be very significantly ahead in most major stats to win the award. AR has more RBI's (a hugely significant stat) mainly because he's had tons more men on base to drive in than J. Bats has.

Just wait 'til Bautista is hitting against the September callups of the non-playoff teams.

Please tell me you don't want to reverse the Brandon League trade.
