I am not disputing your claims but can you give me a reference to the draft rules back in the 70's? I can only recall Guy Lafleur as the only #1 pick Montreal got in the 70's. Which other elite Quebec born players did montreal drafted in the top 5 in the 70's?
The infamous Reggie Houle was the only player in the dynasty acquired via this loophole. In case you do not want to read my whole post above, the importance of this loophole to the Canadiens success is a pure myth started by jealous Leafs fans many years ago.

I should have read the other posts in this thead before going off!!

And I don't blame Shack - he has probably been told by several of his older peers that ths is why Montreal had their dynasties. It is a fact that it did happen. But its importance has been overstated.

Can you tell I have had arguments with some Leafs friends on this before!!!

Actually, I started watching hockey during the 61/62 season so I am old enough to form my own opinion on this topic.

I kinda figured it wasn't a huge deal in Montreal's success but it's fun to rattle the cages of Montreal fans. As is evident in the last few posts it is very easy to do.

at least if the leafs fail I can throw on a Carlin disc in and he could tell me about sports and religion lol. Shit he was funny, I miss good old George.
Hey, if the Leafs keep winning which is what they are doing so far, they may sneak into playoffs and it will be double pleasure for you to play the Carlin disc. LOL!!!

And St.Louis Hammered Detroit, is that a good example too. I think not.

It's only one f..ing game.

Les Habs have been getting out played for most of the season but Price has been the difference.

Now the trolls are out now that they are losing?
It is true that at any given game, any team can beat any other team in NHL. However, the fact of the matter is the Habs are slumping hard and fast at a bad time and it is not just one f..ing game as you said. What if they lost the remaining 4 games and remain at 89 points??? Bet the five teams trying to catch the Habs will be jumping for joy. Even Toronto may be going to playoffs if it wins the remaining 4 games. LOL!!!

By the way, the Canadiens this year were very much like the 2005-2006 Sabres, smallish, fast, and skill, with a good goaltender. The Sabres then went all the way to Eastern Conference Final that season and lost to the Hurricanes when they lost 4 defensemen to injuries. According to your posts in this thread, 3 of the Habs’ defensemen are injured. Price can no longer carry the team as their goalie. The conclusion is the Habs are doomed. Correct, The Oracle of Delphi at Mount Parnassus? Are they going to miss playoffs??? A prophecy will eliminate the guessing game, won't it??? LOL!!!

Incidentally, The Oracle of Delphi was a priestess not a man.

Perhaps you are a different version of Oracle of Delphi eh??? LOL!!!

OMFG...You the one who brought the Sabres beating Rangers as an example to which I making the response that it is only one game. Using the Wings/St.Louis as a further example.

As for the playoffs, if they play the Bruins in the first round they are finished.

Boston is to big and physical for them to succeed in a 7 game series.

Also yes i'm aware that the original Oracles were female but they have been gone since 393 AD.

That was a GREAT game last week by Boston. Montreal did not even show up to avenge their teammate. I am not saying they should have fought, because they would have gotten destroyed(Oops they did any way), but at least give the Bruins a run for their money, at least let Boston know that there was an other NHL team on the ice.
Alas no, Montreal just got run right over ... splat ... and left the arena embarrassed and as fast as they could.
No one even said 'Boo' to the Big Zed.

Scenicdrive ... Can I ask you what your all about ... It's not a insult but curious ... Are you a Sabre Fan ... The topic of Sabres is discussed by you alot and so you must have an emotional investment in the team .
The good doc is all about fulfilling Plato's vision of being the Philosopher-King. Perhaps if Freddie Zed asked the good doc to serve a guardian/moderator of his kingdom, the good doc will seriously entertain it. LOL!!! Perhaps you can say that the good doc is a fan of the Sabres' fans and think that the only way the Sabres team can reward the fans' loyalty is to win multiple Stanley Cups. Now that they have an owner who is a Sabres fan and has that vision/mission, the Sabres should do well from now on and therefore worth keeping an eye on.

The Sabres vs Rangers game was brought up as an example of winning games as a team as the best strategy in team sports such as NHL. There is the implication that a team effort can overcome many things, including a so so defense and even with an AHL goalie Jonas Enroth in net. Desperation, passion, heart, focus, and the unyielding will to win can carry a team very far. However, it does not look like the Habs have enough of these mental elements when they played recently. The Sabres did not have them in last years' playoff vs the Bruins. If they were to meet again this year, look for the Swords to avenge their last playoff defeat.

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
"When the NHL instituted the NHL Amateur Draft in 1963, the Canadiens were given the option to replace their regular first selection with two "Cultural Picks" that could be used to draft up to two French-Canadian players before any other team made any selections. The team used one cultural pick in 1968, and both in 1969, when it drafted Rejean Houle and Marc Tardif, two top prospects. This option was eliminated after the 1969 draft."
Fuck, so even as far back as the 60's the Quebecers wanted preferential treatment...who do they think they are? Like in this past budget where Dion said there was nothing in it for Quebec.

I guess being Leafs' captain allows him to speak out on these matters.

err.. Did you mean Gilles Duceppe, leader of the Bloc, and not Dion, ex leader of the Liberals?

btw, this right was agreed by everyone until after 1969. I tried to find documentation and cannot find any info on Montreal "demanding" this right. The draft back then is not the same as now. Some team actually opted out of the draft. Toronto did it in 1965.

Who cares about the Habs...this is Toronto ERB. :)
Of course, Toronto fans should not care about Montreal. LOL!!! With 84 points and three more games to play, the Leafs at most can reach 90 points. Whereas the Habs already have 91 points and there is nothing the Leafs can do to catch the Habs. So let the Sabres or Rangers or even Carolina do the honor then.
