FIFA World Cup™: Quarter-finals

Netherlands vs. Brazil - Today July 2nd 10:00am (ET)
Uruguay vs. Ghana - Today July 2nd 2:30pm (ET)
Argentina vs. Germany - 3 Jul 10:00am (ET)
Paraguay vs. Spain - 3 Jul 2:30pm (ET)

I want want Brazil to win this. I will cheer for Uruguay but if Ghana was to win I'd be happy for them representing Africa. Tomorrow I really want to see Argentina win (not in penalty kicks ) I like either Spain or Paraguay so may best team win

Brazil out!!!......ORANJE!!!!! I've been a fan of the Dutch since 1974.....if they make it through to the final and if they meet Argentina or Germany, then it would be revenge time for the Oranje!....Germany beat them in the 1974 final.....in Germany, and Argentina in the 1978 final.....in Argentina!!!..but even if it's Spain...Go Oranje!!!!!!

My tarot cards prediction tells me Ghana will pull it off this afternoon and beat Uruguay. I don't feel too bad about Dutch winning since it's technically the only team who has beaten Japan in the match(not talking about free kicks). Shocked with Brazil loss, will be little quiet in downtown Brazilian headquarter.

Way to go Oranje!!!! They were soundly outplayed in the 1st half but lucky to be only down 1-0. Brilliant save by Stecklenburg kept it that way. Then the 2nd half they showed much more composure and didn't back down from the aggression of the Brazilians. Entertaining match to say the least.

Wow. A hand ball that clearly saved a goal and a missed penalty kick. If I was reffing or making the rules, I would have ruled that the goal was good since it was only the handball that kept it out.

Soccer is boring.
I have never been to Keswick and only visited a friend's trailer park once. I was bored there too. I am a Leaf fan though.

lol...soccer can be very very boring, I agree. It has its moments, but overall its boring, poorly reffed and poorly administered by FIFA.

I dont hate soccer or love it. I would say that this World Cup would indicate some rule changes need to come about. Other sports have moved into this century but soccer has not. Those other sports had and do have their purists who fought the changes but its called evolution of the game which like life cannot be stopped. Ok so that sounded a little too dramatic.

Feel bad for Ghana though. But then again the money I made on the under total match goals eases that emotion. :)

Man o' man, if Fate wasn't aligned against Ghana then I don't know what was. So many (lost) opportunities to win. I thought when Uruguay missed their shootout kick that the tide might turn but, Nope!

As much as I wanted Ghana to win, I've gotta say that Uruguay earned the victory.

Sorry for your condition. There is medication available for it, you know.

It's called: Reality.
No really I am a fan and I am fine.
Do not worry if you keep kicking the ball, eventually even you will hit the net the size of a small house.

I totally agree, what a traversty of justice. All Gyan (penalty taker) had to do was kick the ball down the middle from the penalty spot.
Well done to Holland, they must be feeling there chances. Can't say they do not deserve it.

The Suarez handball was absolutely the correct call, he was red carded and Ghana was given the penalty kick. Its not his fault the Ghanian missed the penalty kick, having said that I applaud him for taking one for the team, he isnt a cheater since he was red carded, now if I was a teammate and he let that go in without even trying, I would be all over him.

I do not understand, why would, the goalie I assume, not try ?
I missed yesterday's afternoon game.

On another note, I am preparing for a war this morning.
Argentina vs Germany should be a good game.

Post mortem

France

THE GREATEST COACH IN THE UNIVERSE's hatred of all things Italian bit him very hard. France needed Frey's calming influence in goal and , to quote Carlo Gargniese, "young Jeremy Menez has more talent in his pinky toe than Goivou and Cigniac combined". And this isn't even taking the ommisions of Benzema and Nasri into account.

Italy

Politics sinks the Azzurri; Lippi stuck with a 2006 formation through qualification then attempted to introduce younger players for the Big Show was a sloppy move. Cannavaro repeated the mistake of Maldini in 2002 - he didn't know when to park his ass on wood. Lippi's biggest mistake, not calling up Mario Balotelli. In spite of his troubles Super Mario has scored more goals as a teenager than Christian Vieri and Alex Del Pierro combined, at the same age. Not using any trequartistas also hurt.

England

When Fabio Capello won the CL with AC MIlan he had a defense made up of Maldini, Baresi, Costacurta and Panucci. England had a decent but not other-worldly defense playing behind a midfield with no play-making ability. Capello disciplined approach worked well in qualifications but completely collapsed in the knockout stage, his tactics were picked apart by Joachim Low. It's shocking to think that England hasn't developed a world class play-maker since Glenn Hoddle.

Brazil

Dutch coach Bert van Marwick is a genius! Using four trequartistas with Van Bommel as the play-maker and De Jong as the sweeper exposed Brazil's weak midfield. Had he used Huntelaar over Kuyt, Brazil would have won easily. You cannot score against Lucio, Juan and Julio Cesar with a big forward. Dunga needed more speed but all he had was Julio Baptista. Finally how good is Kaka without Pirlo - not very.
