Am I correct to say that the Euros lost every game against a North American (Canada and the U.S.) team?
You are correct! USA won all games so far and Canada's only loss is to you know what team. :)

The Slovaks play a very ugly style of play. Very hard to open up the game and play firewagon hockey against them.
Playing ugly style seemed to give Team Canada a scare. Perhaps Team USA should try that eh??? Again, from the entertainment standpoint, playing north and south, up and down like the Americans and Canadians did in the initial meeting were a lot more exciting to watch.

I think the American team has about a 70% chance of winning gold on Sunday because their goaltending is way better than anyone else's.

Ryan Miller has a .955 save percentage in this tournament versus about .900 for Canadian goalies; so, you need to outshoot the U.S. team by about 50 - 20 to have a 50% chance of winning.

Canada's forwards and defence are best in tournament; but goalies are a bit underwhelming so far and no where near in the same class as Ryan Miler.

One would think the Canadian fans would like to see Team Canada pounded the Slovaks into submission just like they did to the Russians. :)
3 elimination games in 4 nights.... They didn't play like there was a lot left in the tank. Glad the next game is Sunday....

Positives: The play of our young defensemen and most of our forwards but Crosby and Thornton have to up their game. Canada's best forward in the last two games is Ryan Getzlaf (a Saskatchewan native).

Negatives: Faceoffs, damn faceoffs and very average goaltending.

The Bronze medal game will be played Saturday and the gold medal game is to be played Sunday. It looks like Canada is a more tired team playing Slovakia when USA was 'practising' with Finland for the better part of the last two periods today. So the advantage of playing on Sunday is to Team Canada as Team USA is quite well rested.

There is broze medal game? They should just give the bronze to the Slovaks after that performance by the Fins.

Guys, you analyse all you want. The stats, save percentage, powerplay, penalty kill, faceoff percentage, etc. But when the puck drops at the gold medal game anything can happen. It's a one shot game to win all the marbels, like a game 7 in the stanley cup finals. Who would have thought the PENS would win game 7 of the stanly cup finals without Crosby getting a point.

Put some traffic in front of Miller and deflect some pucks and we'll be fine. Last game vs the US we played well and had 43 shots but Miller saw most of them clean. If we do what we did to the Slovaks early, different game.

That's how Canada is going to beat Miller. Lot's of deflections and traffic in front of Miller. If I was Babcock I would be practcing defelections in front of the net.

Using number like save percentages to evaluate goal-tending is well.... not good, especially in a short tournament
Anyone who has played or watched a lot of hockey knows that those numbers do not reflect the quality of shots a goalie faces.
30 shots from well outside the slot area does not compare well against a goalie who stops 20 in close and several second or third wackes
In particular it is the goalie who makes the real timely save (opening minute of a period or the last minute of the period) on a high quality scoring chance or slams the door shut during a penalty kill that I want in net
I would not give a rats ass about save % if he is able to do that in a close game.
Ryan Miller is an outstanding goalie and has played great in this tournament, but do not delude yourself into thinking the USA has a significant advantage in net.

Same point I was going to make. The other factor that makes things difficult for Canada, is that I thought, in spite of Canada's 45 shots (they did score 2 goals), the Yanks also blocked a ton of shots and clogged up the shooting lanes. Canada needs to score some ugly goals, garbage goals, crash the net. We need Phil Esposito type goals.

Like the timely save by Luongo late the third period.

Too many lost brain cells.

I still think we had 45 shots, though. But please don't check and prove me wrong again.

Problem is that they are so good offensively that it looks like they don't need to. They look like they are toying with the opposition with their puck movement and ability to stay in the offensive zone. They get 40-50 shots a game, many quality. But with a goalie like Miller, they need to put that mindset aside a bit.

I am a Leaf fan and knowing that it may a be while before the Blue And White will parade the Stanley Cup down Bay Street. Team Canada winning the gold is huge for me, it's like winning the Cup but not really winning the cup, if you get what I mean.

Ask Team Canada's assistant coach Lindy Ruff, who happened to be Miller's head coach with the Sabres. He will have intimate knowledge of how to solve Miller the goalie. LOL!!!

Are you kidding? He won't give that info away, It would cost him the NHL season.

Very well, winning the Stanley Cup is a North American affair. Winning Olympic gold is an international affair. Different flavor for sure.

LOL!!! Last time when the Team USA beat Team Canada 5 to 3, someone asked Ruff whether he had told Team Canada how to solve Miller. To which Ruff replied to the effect that whatever he said obviously did not work and Ruff just laughed. So you figure that out yourself. :)
