It is open season on pedestrians. Maniac motorists 14, pedestrians 0. Ridiculous.
is it just me that finds it odd that they are elderly? You have to wonder if they were crossing with the lights, against them, or ?? I know one was hit on rutherford road by the 401. I bet she didn't stop at the island. Not to excuse her being hit, but that's what islands are for, in case you can't make it across in one light......

One thing I HAVE noticed recently: pedestrians are acting like idiots. I can't tell you how many just cross right in front of me along queen and NOT at an intersection or crosswalk.

I've also noted more and more aren't even pushing the crosswalk buttons, just stepping off into traffic. They don't even do the old stop look point......

Not saying it's right to hit and kill them but as a pedestrian, you HAVE to be careful.....

I actually speed up on defiant jay walkers. I love to see them shit their pants and get out of the way within inches of being plastered on the pavement. Just the ones with attitude.

Yup, when in doubt blame the victim. lol
Not blaming anyone, but if you're careless, then you're in more danger than if you're careful.....and with the way people are strolling about on the roads? It's a wonder it isn't 20 this week.....

Just yesterday I almost nailed someone who was crossing the street and popped out from behind a cube van right in front of me. Didn't even look, didn't even slow down when I laid on the horn. If I had glanced down to check my speed he'd be dead.....and I'd have to clean some goo off the front of my truck.

I'm all for playing games but not with a deadly weapon. What if by speeding up they slip and fall and you run over them?

If you can not feel sorry for them what about the people who love them and done no wrong / why hurt them cause somebody else was a jerk?

Its freaking cold outside right now, you all in a car can crank the heater up--relax. Don't try to play cop on the roads, yeah if be great if all jaywalkers got ticketed but guess its not going to happen. No reason to scare them cause you just might end up killing them.

Now I have no problems with when you need to brake when you should not, to go sounding your horn, no problems at all. In fact I feel motorist do not use their horns often enough. Horns are like safety belts, you need to use them for them to help out.

Personally, I'm tired of the complaining. I've spent my cash on the Hummer, I'm safe and I can go where I want. Why don't those idiot pedestrians just stay on the sidewalks or buy a car. Or better yet, why don't they buy themselves some airbags, a helmet and learn to run fast. They've got their own sidewalks, why don't they just stick to them. On top of that, I'm bloody annoyed that I have to stop at stop signs, I mean if I've paid for the biggest vehicle why should I wait for some slow bike, minivan or old lady. Might is right folks. And don't get me started on bike lanes. Why just today I had to put down my iphone and almost spilt my coffee to yell at some cyclist who almost scratched my hood. And then I almost hit some idiot pedestrian trying to cross at a 'crosswalk'. If they're going to go walking on the streets, texting, they better have the gear keep themselves safe. It works for me.

As rub said: jaywalking, jaywalking at night wearing black, etc.....if you act like you want to be a victim, sooner or later, eventually, you'll be a victim.

Yes, but motorists also smash into houses and bus shelters. Motorists kill each other in great numbers as well.

what's that got to do with "blaming" the victim? The fact is, it doesn't. As for crashing into houses and bus shelters etc those are few and far between......

The thread is about pedestrians getting hit and killed by vehicles. The way to reduce the risk of that is to follow the written laws, be aware, look both ways before crossing the street (and then do it again) and DON'T be texting, chatting, or have headphones on with the music blasting while doing anything where lack of attention could get you killed......

This thread is about judging before knowing the facts, it's easier and more enjoyable to blame the victims.

Rockslinger, Brill, I think TBoy is just saying that not all the fatalities have been caused by maniac drivers... many of the accidents were a result of careless pedestrians. If you jump out in front of a car on a busy street bad things are going to happen and not necessarily because of driver carelessness. In one of the cases (don't know if the guy died) a pedestrian walked right in front of a streetcar while talking on a cell phone. That's not the streetcar driver's fault.

I didn't assign blame.

Just don't forget to apply those same rules to drivers as well, eh?
The only difference is that when a pedestrian fucks up, they die, when a drive fucks up the pedestrian dies.

actually, no. Drivers fuck up all the time and no pedestrians get killed. It isn't mutually inclusive. If the driver AND pedestrian are careful, no one gets killed. If a pedestrian does something stupid, they end up killed, if the driver ends up doing something stupid and the pedestrian does something stupid, the pedestrian gets killed. If the driver does something stupid and the pedestrian is careful, the pedestrian survives.

I dunno about you guys but when I took driver's training there was a concept called defensive driving. Whereby they teach you that people will fuck up and be ready for that. If you are aware of this? You can avoid accidents. If you're not aware? An accident can occur. As a pedestrian you're extremely vulnerable to you should be extra careful.

It is highly publicized that many pedestrians are walking zombies with cellphnes stuck in their ears, mp3s playng cranked up at high volume, noses buried while texting....all that does is increase the risk.....

And one day you will mis-calculate and "plaster them on the pavement". Won't that be a thrill. What a fucking loser you are.
