I finally saw the movie yesterday, and it is impressive. One newspaper review made a very good point. The power of the movie is its ability to transition the viewer from an initial impression that you're looking at 3D cartoons, to emotionally involving you in the outcome of the Naavi characters.

Yes, I agree with that, but right now I just want to know where to get my hands on one of those Naavi women.

Mrs. CG and myself packed up the "cyclettes" on the weekend to see this film in 3D... we arrived an hour before start time... SOLD OUT!

This movie is a certifiable phenomenon! It is STILL selling out all over the place 3 1/2 weeks after its initial release!

I loved this movie, more so than my son (9) and his cousin (12).... the visuals in 3D are amazing, and so I must say is the story.....

I tried going 2 Saturdays ago downtown (New Years long weekend) and the entire night was sold out by 6pm. INSANE.

The best thing is to order your tickets on-line from home earlier in the day.
That way you print your tickets from home and just show up and go right in (but to be sure you get a seat come early)

If you really wanted to know what Gayass thought of this movie, please check out his thread in the Business Finance and Investment forum. A crash and burn act if I have ever seen one. Who are you trying to kid Gayass. Weren't you just saying the BF&I thread is where you proclaim the success of this movie. You must be off your meds or something. Please read it Terbites and make your own conclusion before it mysteriously disappears . We're still waiting for your rebuttal Gayass, but you seem to be doing your best duck and dive staying incredibly quiet and maintaining a low profile in other forums to avoid standing behind your comments and flame attacks on others.

Well just to set the record straight about who and what you are…..

Cameron's film isn't making the money it should be....cost too much, brings in too little.

Your saying a $700 Million movie that makes $418 Million is good, in 2 weeks)? The foreign receipts are 2 to 1 in North America. That's not good.

So it will make a total of $1.00.....oops, its a loss.

It hasn't made any profit yet. And in the end, based on the COST to make the fucking thing, it won't be valued percentage wise at what it could bring in,

Not exactly, but close. What one has to take into account is the number of customers going to theatres is declining

It's an entertaining movie. The usual Hollywood Noble Savage theme runs deep, but the movie is impressive for what it is.

Regardless, the movie is well worth seeing; not only for the 3D but the beautiful settings.

There is an interesting side story regarding Stephen Lang (Colonel Quaritch).

He was initially cast as Kyle Reese, Sarah Connor's protector in The Terminator. But as shooting commenced, Cameron noticed he had a problem. Reese was supposed to look over-matched verses The Terminator which wasn't the impression Lang gave vs Arnold. So Cameron replaced him with Michael Biehn. Cameron assured Lang that they would work together again on a future project. It took 25 years but he made good on his promise.

Cameron had a point, for a man in his late 50's Lang still has an impressive physique.

Posted in the movie forum already, but basically it is amazing, probably more so because the characters were far better than low expectations. In terms of box office, it's a fucking juggernaut.

I saw the movie and I was completely blown away. I didn’t see it on the big screen and I still loved the special effects.

To say that it’s a technical tour-de-force goes without saying. What I’m surprised with is the number of people who pan the story line. True it’s not as ground breaking as the CGI and it was predictable but I thought it was a great story none the less.

The plot has some similarities with Dances with Wolves. That’s not a put down. DWW was a good movie. There a few new twists. I like how once Jack became linked with the Avatar, that the Avatar became his dream and he was the Avatar’s dream. That was a nice touch.

What Avatar skillfully does is make you sympathize with that NaVi and actually has you cheering for them against your own species; not easily done.

I had never seen this guy, but this movie will re-make his career. In the film you hate the character, but love the guy because he does such an amazing job of pulling off the role. Couldn't not believe he is 58 years old in that shape.

On trhe related topic... saw it in 3D on Saturday... showed up with maybe 10 minutes to spare
signs on the door say it is sold out self serve tickects says filling fast
Down side of the whole thing had to sit in the very front row, makes it a bit hard to see the whole screen.
Up side one hell of a movie... actually almost shed a few tears

Mr. Lang has aged quite well. Glad to see he is still doing work. I remember first seeing him in Michael Mann's CRIME STORY playing the 'nerdy' cop, so his role in Avatar as the badass sarge was an interesting change.

As for the movie's storyline, nothing new.... big corporation wants to make money, indigenous people in the way, hero saves the day, happy ending.
You knew what would happen within the first 30min. For a project that was in the making over 10 years ago I was expecting so much more. If you took the 3D away, you wouldn't have too much to go OOH & AAH about. To me it was a cut n paste job of different films/characters -- Aliens, LOTR nazgul, Gorillas in the Mist, Nausicaa Valley of the Wind, Laputa, Final Fantasy series.

Gets 6/10 from me.

Bale you have a point, there aren't many original story lines left that's why all the other aspects are getting more important character portrayal, cinematography and nor special effects. It's the sum total of these that make a good movie great.
