I think it has more to do with respecting foreign customs. So why is it shiver inducing that we would respond differently to a monarchy and that I'd think you'd struggle to understand that based on where you grew up?

SO;I think it has more to do with respecting foreign customs.
Or insecure.I think anyone raising this as an issue is implicitly saying that their other complaints against Obama don't hold water.
Otherwise, why would you make a big deal out of something as trivial as this, unless you were grasping at straws?
I think that might be an over simplification.I think anyone raising this as an issue is implicitly saying that their other complaints against Obama don't hold water.

Of course business leaders always bow to their Japanese counterparts or competitors. Glad Obama is making his own way.The President of the United States does not bow to the Emperor of Japan any more than does the Queen.
Yes it is a significant diplomatic faux pas, yes it is causing a fair amount of mainstrean flap in the U.S.
Only if they want to get into the Japanese markets in which the doors are quite closed. If the Japanese have their doors wide opened, or when the Japanese want to get into foreign markets, those business leaders are not bowing.Of course business leaders always bow to their Japanese counterparts or competitors. Glad Obama is making his own way.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."I think it has more to do with respecting foreign customs.
It may be a non-issue to you, but Obama telling the world through his actions that America considers itself subservient to Japan, to England, to just about every other nation on earth makes a huge difference to millions of people around the world. This really a non-issue.
and from Aartie; It may be a non-issue to you, but Obama telling the world through his actions that America considers itself subservient to Japan, to England, to just about every other nation on earth makes a huge difference to millions of people around the world.
You may not understand the language of international relations, but that doesn't make it unimportant on the world stage.
Some Canadians do understand that what happens on the world stage does matter, even though they don't quite understand why.Now you see, I don't read this at and apparently a lot of other readers here don't see this. I would say that only those who might be unsure of their place in the greater scheme of thing would see this as a position of weakness. Remember that thread not too long ago as to how DUMB some Americans are about even the most basic of things, their own government and the relationship with their best friends to the north. Now imagine these same people trying to understand the complex worlds of international relations and diplomacy. NUTS!!!
Really got yourself all worked up about this haven't you? Btw you never did explain George's groping incident. It may be a non-issue to you, but Obama telling the world through his actions that America considers itself subservient to Japan, to England, to just about every other nation on earth makes a huge difference to millions of people around the world.
What on earth are you talking about? You said something about "explain George" without any reference whatsoever to what you meant.Really got yourself all worked up about this haven't you? Btw you never did explain George's groping incident.
Try backing yourself up to post #38.What on earth are you talking about? You said something about "explain George" without any reference whatsoever to what you meant.
For ease of communication, it helps if you at least explain your complaint. I don't read minds.
