Nothing is scarier than a politician who does not have to worry about being re-elected.
A bank thats too big to fail is much scarier, because when that bank wants something it doesn't matter who you elect they're getting it.

In a two-way race, I'd choose Enza the Supermodel over Adam Vaughan.
Or Adam Giambrone.

BTW, I am glad the Miller time is essentially over!

Not sure it's a good idea to have Mike Harris kind of guy to fix the city....

Toronto is actually a lefty city because more than 50% of the city depend on the public sector for a paycheque or a handout. Of course, it is the private sector that foots the bill through ever higher taxes.
yep, you hit the nail on the head

regards, from Dash Domi and..Tom Jacobek

make no mistake..the province granted taxing priveleges to City Hall..any mayor of any political stripe would of done the same thing.....in my view, better Miller, who i think is a decent enough guy, who didnt use wedge issues to pit one segment of society against another segment, in order to pander to the basest tendencies of human beings..in order to troll for votes,,,like for instance, anal cankers like Mike Harris Stephen Harper, Tim Hudak.ect ect..

Are we talking about the same Miller? The guy who pit Islanders against the rest of the city and destroyed the fixed link. The guy who pit the public sector monopoly bully unions against a defenseless private sector.:(

Is it just me, or do I get a feeling that most participants in TERB (at least those in this thread) are politically to the right?

It's worth noting that the political right or conservatives often include those who are fundamentally are social conservatives, specifically the groups that would prefer to strictly ban all forms of prostitution. Therefore, you guys, by taking part in "hobbying" are really potentially shooting yourselves in the foot in supporting politicos to the right.

Granted, I suspect there are some in the "left" who may also be less sympathetic to the notion of legalizing prostitution.

As for one of the posters' comment about bringing back Lastman, God I hope not! Toronto doesn't need any more buffoons like that!

And as for Miller, I have mixed feelings about him. He tends to be blamed for problems that are really not of his making, and he did do his best to boost the city in investments in cultural activities, but overall I think he was a mediocre mayor.

Also, no leader should stay in power for too long, so it's good that he's not considering running again.

Somehow, I get the feeling when the candidates for mayor are announced -- the complainers will wish Miller will run again.

I would have preferred to defeat Miller in battle rather than have him wimp out like this.
Maybe I'm being cynical, but I suspect that Miller has a better deal going on somewhere else in the world. Isn't he the chair of some kind of global mayors council affiliated with Bill Clinton. That's some powerful company to be associated with.

I suspect Miller will be tied to some global green initiative we will be hearing about in the next few years.

He basically saw the light and realized he might not get the votes, definitely not without having to run the gauntlet.

I said, in the strike threads, that he was probably polishing up his CV at the time.

did not use wedge issues to pit one segment against another , is this the same mayor miller who just announced he was not running again?
