Well now we know why he stepped up as CEO of Invest Toronto when Bryant had to step down for re-cycling!

Miller leaving means it's much more likely another left/progressive wins as mayor.
Miller is not a left/progressive. He is so far to the left that he belongs in 1930's Russia. He hates the private sector and loves to overpay monopoly public unions:mad:.

...which initiative did you prefer? His admirable propagation of union interests or his amazing ability to drive home every tax/fee hike he could think of?
Any mayor would have problems dealing with the unions and inheriting a budget nightmare from the previous mayor and provincial government.

Miller had a vision for Toronto (Architecture, Arts, Culture, Festivals etc.) to be a world class city.

Do you think someone like Silver-spoon politicians like John Tory or Deputy Premier George Smitherman care about Toronto?

I disagree, but I feel he's been very ineffective so I don't care to argue it. My point is if you want a conservative or a moderate Miller not running is bad news because it makes the attacks against the left less tangible, and the right in this city has a terrible track record of getting their message out when it's not in the form of attacking the other guy.

Toronto is actually a lefty city because more than 50% of the city depend on the public sector for a paycheque or a handout. Of course, it is the private sector that foots the bill through ever higher taxes.

Although property taxes are lower here then much of the province I believe. That can be explained by other taxes/fee's (I forget which paper did a piece on this a few months ago) but the overall municiapal tax burden is not out of line with the rest of the region.

JUst wondering what festivals would you atrribute to hizz worshipp ?

Any new buildings or services that stopped traffic because they were so good?

The unions and old toronto got him elected with his using the bridge to the island must die platform. He boasted that cancelling the bridge would not cost the city a twoonie, he went down hill from there.

Incidently AECON the bridge contractor collected the bulk of the amount of the contract from the city after the lawyers were done with the thing, much more than a twoonie

That opens up the opportunity for another humiliation of
john Tory.
Lol - you're right. Not sure who would be good but I don't think it would be Tory. Hope it's not another CUPE lap dog.

I don't even live in the town yet am happy :D

That garbage strike / wanting to tear down the Gardiner was enough for me. Sure he screw up Toronto in more ways than I ever know.

Lot's of people want to tear down the Gardiner, and odds are the left winger that replaces Miller will be one of them. I see this as making change in policy less likely not more.

I was thinking along similar lines. With Miller, there was likely to be an Anybody But Miller campaign. Without him as the left wing candidate, there will be less focus. In addition, as was the case with Bob Rae, many of his more extreme supporters would have been upset that he did not give them even more and have stayed home on election day. Without him, the left wing crackpots can field a candidate that will be more likely to unite their supporters.

Really weird - his teenage son was crying at the news conference. WTF?

(and he looked like he had a black eye? Did he get beat up at school?)

Gramage is right

Miller leaving means it's much more likely another left/progressive wins as mayor. George Smitherman is planning on running apparently, and if he does he'll be able to argue the left without the name calling Miller would have gotten.

For all the people here who want a more right leaning mayor this is bad news.

Unless the Labour Council/NDP/Left whatever puts up a new candidate, all the Miller vote will swing behind left of centre Liberal Furious George to defeat even Red Tory Tory. There are not enough conservatives left south of Steeles to elect a Mayor or a majority on council. You see how badly Levy got crushed in St.Paul's, an affluent riding. Torontonians now believe Tories are like rural hicks and bumpkins and just not up to running a sophisticated city. The future fight will be totally between the left end of the Libs vs the NDP/Labour types.

I can't be happier that he won't be running again. But I temper that with what this really means, and what he has now become.

Nothing is scarier than a politician who does not have to worry about being re-elected.
