I know there are way more than just these...but these are my favorites...I pick Goodfellas as all-time best though...I think I've seen it 3 or 4 times and never get tired of it....

After seeing Goodfellas several times, I read Nicolas Pileggi's book, Wiseguy, on which the movie was based. Although the book itself was a good read, it was a major disappointment, because all of the little details that make the movie so good aren't there. In the book, the classic "Now go home and get your fuckin' shinebox!" scene is, like. one paragraph, with no dialogue, just an explanation that Tommy and Batts got in an arguement.

I'm going to say Ichi the Killer just to be difficult. Does anyone else notice the parallel between The Godfather and The Beatles? 95% of the praise laid on by people who can't name five songs by The Kinks? I get the feeling that this fetishizing will drop off within 30 years.

Those listed are tried and true. But to be difficult as well I'll say Sonatine--it's just different, not unlike Ichi but not messed up in that manner lol.

Edit: I think A Bronx Tale should get some sort of honorable mention.

You be crazy... but let's not mention Godfather III :) Then again, I also love White Heat.

As much as I love all those movies and seen them a million times, none of them even come close to Goodfellas in the way it captures the essence and nuances of all the characters and lifestyle. Scorcese was able to capture the apparent contradictions in these guys, how they could be immensely charming and completely hideous at the same time. He's a master filmaker.

Unfortunately, I think that was his swan song, the last of his truely great films.

I can't say that I loved the moive but it was interesting

http://imdb.com/title/tt0080120/

To me it seemed as if it were done by someone with no knowledge of gangs

Since no one has mentioned it, I'll throw in 'Pritzzi's Honor' with Jack Nicholson & Kathleen Turner!

I gotta go with Pulp Fiction. But others already mentioned in this thread that are solid contenders are:
Bronx Tale
Godfather
Goodfellas
Casino

Hands down, "Last Man Standing". I'm not a big Bruce Willis fan but that movie was amazing.
Hands down? You've got to be kidding. It's not even the best of the 3 movies with the same story - Yojimbo (the original) written and directed by Akira Kurosawa and the first remake Per un pugno di dollari (A Fistful of Dollars) starring Clint Eastwood and directed by Sergio Leone.
