Yellowknife?

I have to go to Yellowknife for a few days. Anyone have some insight on what there is to do for fun up there? SP's aside (because I doubt there are any) I'm just looking for good places to hang out etc.

Yellowknife is a different type of town. You can find some bar action, but generally its just you, the remote control and maybe a six pack. Just leave it outside of the motel room, and its ice cold in minutes.

Worst part of Yellowknife, is the woman that are good looking are alway hooked up with the worst character in the place. Lots of young people looking to leave, (girls will ask for money for plane to Edmonton or Calgary), they will offer anything for the ticket.

Be careful, its a nice place to visit for about 12 hours.

Gold Range AKA the "Strange Range".

Went in there once about 2 years ago for the cultural experience and can't say I'll ever go back. Now I know what it feels like to be a racial minority and be stared at with those "what-the-hell-are-you-doing-in-here" eyes.

My hotel room faced the main entrance from across the mall parking lot and it was interesting when all the patrons left at closing time and had a massive brawl and screaming match on the street. Note: most of the fighters were female.

There is an okay pub just one block east and one or two blocks north of the Strange Range. It has a sort of dance club upstairs from it as well.

Remember that Yellowknife is a capital city with a large number of government offices. There are a bunch of young professionals in town who are generally from somehwere else down south. They are usually just there for a few years to get experience and then to get out but, they are sometimes looking to meet people. You should find a few bars worth hanging out in. Don't expect much more.

I was in Iqaluit a few years ago, so to be honest I was expecting the same out of Yellowknife, minus the restricted liquor.
Should be interesting at least, I'll be there for 5 days and 4 nights. Anything besides the bars to see there? I might as well make the most of my time.
