And they also know which sport will get them more viewers and by extension more money. That's the bottom line. Televise what is going to make the most money.

It shouldn't be a difficult concept to grasp (for most people, anyways).
My point is that if TSN doesn't want to show the Champions League fuck them..... but at least let someone else show it so that we can watch our beautiful game at normal times and not on a tape delay during the middle of the night.

Typical Toronto comment.

Curling is incredibly popular in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. Just because we live in Ontario where we live in a bubble and most Ontarians could care less about the rest of Canada don't make idiotic comments about "knowing" any curling fans. I'm sure people in Drumheller, Alberta (or any of another 1000 communities around Canada) wouldn't know, or care, about whatever an AC Milan or Bundesliga was in the world.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyZcwnO794k
Funny Rick Mercer video about how insulated Torontoians are about their lives and could care less about the rest of Canada. Nothing to do with sports but might put this argument into perspective. Just because it's not Toronto doesn't mean it doesn't matter.
Typical response from you dj. First of all,I'm not from Toronto, which is neither here nor there. As far as Rick Mercer is concerned, his opinions are of no relevance to me. I imagine people in B.C. for example, could care care less about the rest of Canada also,so his point is moot. As far as the other 1000 communities around Canada are concerned,I really don't care what they think either. You seem to try to come across like you're an expert,an expert on nothing. If you stopped to think about the cross section of people who reside in Ontario, and Canada for that matter, you would realize that there is a huge ethnic(cultural) following of soccer in the European demographic. The unfortunate part is that our tv media here in Canada doesn't want to embrace it,and therefore,it becomes non existant. If you feel my comments are idiotic,so be it,your opinion, and your opinion only. You can join the other 1000 communities around Canada and cheer for your favourite curler:rolleyes:

OK you wanna get personal, let's get personal. You, sir, mean nothing to me. The video was a bit of levity that you are obviously too stupid to understand. As for your beloved soccer? Soccer is for pussies and 10 year old girls. It is the sport of the weak and the poor. It is the most played game in the world because you need no equipment to play it. All you need is a sphere shaped object. And since over 70% of the world is below the poverty line and third world, well, you do the math. Soccer is the most boring sport on the planet besides maybe cricket. As far as your cultural following and euro demographic? Well, if you love the place you came from sooooooooooo much why don't you go back there? This is Canada where hockey, curling, and skiing are done in the winter. Soccer can go into the backseat where it belongs. Way back in the backseat. The reason the media doesn't care about soccer is because most Canadians could care less about it. They are not stupid people unlike someone I know. By the way, when you type on a computer you are supposed to leave a space between punctuation - reading your posts is like reading a post written by a 10 year old girl who gets D's in school. Opps, sorry, maybe you are since you seem to like soccer.

You should know about 10 year old girls because you sound like one(hahahaha!!!!). I didn't know you were such a literary expert, puncuations and all that shit? Like I said earlier, you consider yourself an expert on everything, everything other than what is significant. Oh,and by the way,I'm from this country,in case you haven't figured that out, which I can say you haven't. As far as getting personal, check your initials comments concerning YOUR reply to my first post on this thread. Also, did you ever consider the fact that I never viewed this so called video from Rick Mercer, whom you seem to adore for whatever reason? You probably watch The View and think that Rosie's word is gospel???????? I grew up playing hockey,so don't try telling me about it. Yes, it's the number 1 sport in this country, and always will be, so what's your point? There isn't one. I would also say that more people watch CFL over skiing and curling. At yesterday's broadcast of curling, there's all kinds of empty seats, which tells me exactly how big the ''sport'' isn't. Soccer is a sport of the weak? That makes sense, considering that curling is such a ''manly'' game. More like ''gurlyman''. You probably watch darts and think that's exciting? If people want to watch curling, that's their choice, however, they should know what the difference is between a sport and a recreational activity.

dj1470's comments smack of cultural imperialism; if it's not Canadain it's irrelevant and effeminate. This is the sort of attitude that allowed an agenda like Jim Crow to sustain itself. Having grown up playing football (soccer), hockey and rugby, I found football to be the most difficult game to play. But according to dj1470 it's not Canadian, just like rugby isn't Canadian thus it's a useless game for pussies.

Am I right?

No thanks, I live in a decent country. Why would I want to go to the third world? If I want to see how tough I am I'll sit in the endzone seats in Chicago at a Bears game and wear a Green Bay cheesehead. Now that would take guts. As far as soccer being a girly-man sport. . . well. . . any game that uses the phrase "beautiful theatrical dive and roll" to describe the action going on is, hands down and 100%, a game for pussies. I heard that on a SportsNet story about a guy named Kristeano (?) Renaldu while I was waiting for the NHL scores and UFC highlights.

Right. Those Chicago Bears fans are so lunatic they might just strap you down and paint a bear on your face! Yikes, how scary! Saying something like that on a subject thread that is being viewed mostly by soccer fans doesn't make you cool dude, it makes you tool.

Soccer will obviously never reach the heights in the US compared to the rest of the world...but dj you're clueless on this one I am sorry. NFL rivalries are tame compared to some of the ones already mentioned. Throw in some Lazio/Roma and Barcelona/Real Madrid...and the list goes on and on.

Fans fight each other in the soccer world...I dont think those Bears fans are fighting too many people.

Whatever. What the hell is a Lazio? I am assuming Roma means Rome amd Real Madrid is the "real" (actual) Madrid? These names are completely obscure. I don't read them in the papers or hear about them on the news here in CANADA!!!!!!! That's what this thread is about - not many people in this country, and North America, give a shit about soccer. I mean do we have a national soccer team, or league, in this country? Are they any good? I might cheer for them - they'd have to be Canadian I would think. Otherwise, forget about it.

actually this thread was started about how TSN chooses to air one of the biggest tournaments in the world in the early stages and doesnt in the knockout stages, it wasnt for idiots whose idea of an international trip is a drive across the QEW to Buffalo, there is a whole world outside of your street corner pal, ya might find it interesting check it out sometime

I don't care about the rest of the world. I care about my country. That country is Canada. I have travelled the world extensively and have been to every continent except Antarctica and I can say from experience that most of the rest of the world has about as much charm as an armpit. That is why people move here to live their lives. TSN understands what side of their bread is buttered and they play the sports Canadians care about not a small minority of people who seem to care more about where they came from than where they are. We are now getting into a philosophical debate about heritage which I will avoid. I am done with this thread. I have said my piece and am satisfied. Soccer is a game for children not adults (except crybabies), a safe game for children not to get hurt in, and a game that is incredibly boring. 'nuf.

I'll bend it like........
There's nothing wrong with being a proud Canadian and a lover of Canadian sports but you've obviously never played soccer. And you've shown little respect for people who enjoy watching something that you don't like.

What TSN did was just wrong, regardless of what sport was currently playing and what sport was coming on next.

once again those of who are soccer fans in North America get screwed!! yesterday and today instead of live Champions League, one of the biggest tournaments in the world, TSN decides to show us exciting live ladies curling!!
Any your point would be????

TSN is a business. They show the programming that will attract the greatest number of viewers, because that is what attracts the advertising dollars from their sponsors. If soccer had a bigger fan base in Canada, I am sure they would include it in their line-up.

Apparently its not as big a draw as ladies curling. :p
