Hey Third, are you thinking what I'm thinking? Sending a woman into the paint department to choose a paint colour? LOL sounds like a whole day event to me lol (being as how they have 70,000 different colours to choose from lol)
But selecting out of an off-white or light beige should reduce it to about 500 colours. Only a half-day event! :D

I agree with using Behr. If you're getting it at Home Depot, they also carry little bottles of paint odor eliminator. Have them pour it in prior to having the paint shaken. It makes a drastic difference in reducing the paint fumes.

Thanks for that advice seeing as I do have the baby too. I will keep the window open in there and the door closed but sure some would seap out. I will do that indeed.

No way I am using these notes in here to start then writing them down walking in handing the guy a 500 page resume and telling him to grab me one.

Or I could just tell the guy to read terb and all the notes that I agree on and get some business for some of the girls on here.

While latex based paints smell bad, they aren't toxic so it shouldn't bother the mini-you......but yeah, open a window and close the door. That will limit the smell permeating your place. Of course that won't work if you have a breeze blowing in the window.....

If you have a portable fan you could put it in the window (facing out) to move the air out of the room.....do a check before starting:

Open a window in your living area
Open the window in the bedroom
Light a candle or a cigarette if you smoke
See which way the wind is blowing.

If it is blowing inwards then put the babe in your bedroom and keep both windows open. That way it will blow right through and out the living room window. But be careful that the room doesn't get too cold, that will affect the paint.

Although, your place WILL smell like fresh paint for a bit.

I concur with Hairy, eggshell is nice and not prone to giving you the symptoms of being snow blinded when you're simply taking a cup out of the cupboard.
Ummm I know everyone is different but Jade is painting the bedroom....now maybe she does keep cups in the bedroom cupboards hehehehe:rolleyes:

hey Jade... If it's the kids room, I recommend getting low or zero-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paint. Paints and finishes release low level toxic emissions into the air for years after application. Most paint manufacturers now produce one or more non-VOC variety of paint. These new paints are durable, cost-effective and less harmful to human and environmental health.

As for the shade of white, I say go for a yellowish tint. It make the room feel warmer and gives off a nice glow/reflection when the sun shines in.

The reason the white picks up the colour of the floor is because white is basically neutral and the light reflecting off the floor will "tint" the walls.

Same goes for light: if you use warm white, cool white, or those new CFLs (compact fluorescent). You see, the light hits the floor and then the light reflected off that floor will have a tinge of whatever colour the floor is.....

Again, I swear by Behr. I've never had a problem with it, it covers well, wears like iron, and I use it all the time for spraying cabinets etc. Their latex enamel is so hard when dry that I can sand it lightly with 220 between coats and get a babybum smooth finish....

Girlie @ Home Depot said that... and the yellow, red and blue dollops of color in the basic white paint.....I forgot to mention it is washable.

Just one caution to pass on. Make sure your lease doesn't require you to get permission from the super before painting. I've seen a couple of leases with that clause in it.

No it doesn't say that but I have heard them speaking of people who painted with dark colours that require many coats to re-cover up and order them to re-paint or pay the cost to fix. So, I know they will not mind as long as it is kept some shade of white. It is the many coats issue I believe they are concerned with. They say there is many clauses in the lease agreement even no dogs allowed but everyone or almost everyone has one. Ask the woman here in charge she says it is just there for incase they find damages caused by an individuals act. We have the go ahead for many things that our leases say we do not and they say nothing till they find cause to act.

Actually where are lease is concerned there is no point paying much attention to it. ie.. no BBQ's lol I have one many others do too. We who have them are just told keep the smoke from entering near neighbors windows and stand guard at all times and keep them center of our balconies so it does not bother others etc... OK I will listen to what they say and keep my BBQ. It says no dogs and we just get told if any neighbors do not like dogs allow them to take the elevators alone before us and to be sure to clean up after etc... so again I will listen and keep my dog.

Well, it is actually illegal in Toronto to have a no pets (dogs and cats) clause in an lease. They passed this law many many years ago.

Now, you can't have a pet tiger or a cobra or anything but cats and dogs are fine......

As for the VOC, that's why we said use something like Behr and NOT one from China...hell, if you got one of those you'd probably be safe from a nuclear bomb radiation poisoning with all the lead that'd be in it lol.
