I have not read through the whole thread - so I'm not sure if anyone has already commented on the guys on TSN - but IMO they are terrible and anything but funny.
I like Duthie and Onrait. Dutchy has been lost since Tothy left for Sportscentral.

After Tothy, Duthie, Onrait and Bondo there aren't any world class sports anchors in the city.

Jay Onrait? Yikes, imho Dutchy is one of the best, although TSN is slipping but Sportsnet....yikes again  Jay Portuondo(sp) and that blonde dude with the gelled hair...ugh...they don't have a clue!!! Rod Black on anything other than figure skating...I either turn the channel, or at least turn off teh sound. Him and Jim Nelford together......not impressive at all.

I know he's not a sportscaster per se but I think John Madden has outlived his usefullness.
man, i'm sorry to say, but you are crazy! Madden is to football what marv albert is to basketball, hah.

Now, the sunday night nfl crew, Thiesman, Mike Patrick and Paul McGuire are the worst, Rob Black bad.

The ESPN crew is the best.

They have the best chemistry I have seen amongst a broadcasting team since Susan Hay and Mike Anscombe called U of T football games on Rogers.

just in terms of Chris Berman ESPN is superb, and this guy knows his stuff about alot of sports not just the NFL heck he even knew what the Hector Crighton award in Canadian football, how many Canadians even know that award.

As for a crappy sportscaster ohhhh how could I have forgotten Gerry "I am reading off the teleprompter and looking oh so knowledgeable about European soccer"Dobson, he is boring, you could tell Craig Forrest just thinks he is an idiot sometimes, if you cant pronounce Borussia Monchengladbach properly you have no business reporting on European soccer.

Almost 50 replies on a thread about the worst sportscasters and nobody`s mentioned Ron MacLean yet? Suffers from the same affliction as Bob Costas in that he thinks fans watch the games to listen to him. All of his constant attempts to romanticize the game to viewers (" kids playing on frozen ponds all day then huddling in front of the tv at night to watch Hockey Night In Canada") are nauseating. The only Canadian TV personalties more annoying than him are that couple on those Canadian Tire commercials. (wouldn`t you love to see a porno with those two?)

How can anybody consider the ESPN crew to be the worst? Berman can be annoying, but the play-by-play crew are outstanding. Great chemistry and no B.S.; if the game stinks they`ll say so, if a player does something stupid they`ll call him on it (remember Thiesmann ripping Rob Johnson for continually taking sacks instead of throwing the ball away?) The football guys I can`t stand are Greg Gumbel (loves to explain the obvious) and Joe Buck (any female reporter on the sidelines could easily kick his ass)

Does Bob Cole have a lifetime contract with the CBC? Please give this guy the golden handshake out the door. Chris Cuthbert, despite sounding like Kermit the Frog, was much better. Harry Neale has outlived his usefulness as well.
Be thankful you don`t live in Ottawa and have to listen to Dean Brown and Gord Wilson. Jock-sniffing ass-kissers who bring new meaning to the term "homer".

No one's mentioned Mike Hogan from The Fan. When he's called University football games on TV, he's worse than Rod Black if you can believe it. His side kick was Paul Hendrick who's also done some Leaf work - he's near the bottom too.

Some other musings:

When Bob Costas was just starting out, he was the locker room interview guy on the St. Louis Cardinals radio broadcasts. He was really good and no doubt others thought so too which propelled him to national prominence. But then I guess he starting believing he WAS good and pissed it all away.

Rod Black and I have a common acquantaince and he also vouches that he's a great guy (when he's not near a microphone).

Mark Hebscher was at a wedding a friend of mine was at - he said he was a knob off air too.

Yeah, his work on CIAU games is brutal. I hated when he would constantly call Kojoo Aidoo "The Diesel Train". As bad as he is calling games, he's even worse on The Fan. They should replace him with Jim Kelly(he's often on Prime Time.. That guy is simply hilarious/awesome.

I am surprised no one mentioned jamie Cambell The jack off that does Blue Jays baseball for Sportsnet. as for Mark Hebscher he was dumped by Global for his coke habit. I don't mind Rod Black he isn't that bad, at least he is better then that Jamie Cambell. I do like the ESPN crew for football.

But thats my opinion... :D

Jamie Campbell and the fellow who does the broadcast for Blue Jays games on TSN are just awful ........boring, factual errors, poor analysis, etc., though the colour guys aren't bad at all. At times, the latter are forced to correct the silly comments provided by the former.

Theisman is kind of a weiner, maybe its my immense hatred of Notre Dame, but anyone who changes the pronouncation of their name mid college career to rhyme with Heisman is a jackass.

I always found the Gumble twins at times annoying, but I can put up with them.

I hate Rob Black, Bob McKenzie, Mike Toth and anybody on the CBC (whenever they start broadcasting again)

I'm thrilled Mark Hebscher is nowhere to be found, and quite frankly I wouldn't give 2 shit's if he overdosed doing his coke.

I also wouldn't trust getting my sports news from this big, fat piece of shit either:

Pat Marsden - I swear this guy was drunk most of the time he was on the air and I know he is really sick right now but I loved him with that stupid sh it kicking grin he always had. I loved him on the Fan in the morning too, old style and funny like your embarassing uncle.
Never take an IOU from Pat Marsden in a poker game.

I hear his health is not good. The Fan didn't take too long to get rid of him when made some politically incorrect comments about the Farrah Khan murder.

But his P.I. was exactly why I enjoyed him.

VIC RAUTER

The guy has been doing curling for at least a decade and still has no understanding of the strategy within the game. He is constantly getting corrected by his analysts. Namely one shot in the fifth end, where he yelled what a shot by Martin, when it was actually a brutal shot, that would to at least one extra point for Norway. As soos as he said it, the others were yelling NO VIC, NO VIC, that is a horrible break.

I am no curling follower, and dio not pretend to understand all its strategic elements.... all I know is that whenever its on its almost always Vic Rauter. You think he would have learned more after all these yeats.... after watching so much he should know just as much as the analysts.

I may flamed for this one, but I can't stand Bob Cole or Harry Neale.
I mostly agree.

Whenever the whistle blows, they're almost always wrong about the reason. If it's a penalty, they seldom get the player or the call right. They should learn to just keep quiet and wait for the announcement.

The same thing happens when they try to anticipate developments on the ice. They're almost always wrong.

I still remember Bob Cole introducing Bobby Orr, in a live interview, as a "former great". This wasn't long after injuries forced his retirement. I'm sure he meant well, but it sure sounded mean.
