90 percent of the comments are to the effect of "way to go girl"

I fall into the camp of "she's an ignorant little self-entitled twat"

I do not buy for a minute her excuse about feeling "unsafe" She lives in the area for fuck's sake and I know Lansdowne quite well where she was filmed and it's a decent area. She's so full of shit it's not funny.

I was going to say that it was obvious when she was blocking the bus there was a ton of people walking on the sidewalk next to her..... if it was dead empty I could see it being potentially unsafe if there was some
Rare stranger but not when the side walk is full and busy

Typical millennial attitude, self entitlement to everything, stupid bitch. She inconvenienced the bus passengers and all the cars that were cued up behind the bus.

The street was totally lit up, lots of pedestrian and car traffic, how the fuck was she unsafe??????

I work with a lot of millennials, they want everything immediately without working hard for it, I can't stand millennials!

I agree with you 100%.But lets place some blame on their self entitlement on their parents. After brainwashing your kid that they can change the world and you are capable of anything, what do you expect?

Is there no room for placing some blame on TTC for it shitty service? Not because the driver kicked her off, but the fact that the TTC doesn't supply enough service to ensure that people don't get kicked off in the first place?

I don't believe the safety thing either, but I think this 5 min solo protest should be an eye-opener to another issue with the TTC that needs to be addressed.

Back in the 80s and 90s Lansdowne/Dupont was a bit grimy, but not so any more, and she's further south of that. Lots of people, lights, busy street. I don't buy the safety concern argument at all.

What would you suggest?

More buses?

More frequently?

Sure, who's going to pay for it?

Maybe raise transit fares by 50 cents a ride. But then there would be revolution in the streets because so many people have become used to heavily tax subsidized transit.

The TTC has a limited budget, the TTC is already the biggest draw on the City of Toronto's budget. In fact, the TTC budget is almost 2 billion dollars annually and Toronto per citizen contributes more to the TTC than does New York City, Mexico City, or Chicago to their respective transit authorities.

You can see by my link that the vast majority of that budget is salaries. I will bet everything I own that every bus driver or employee of the City of Toronto would out right refuse to cut their salary by 10 cents even if it could mean more buses on Lansdowne Avenue.

If you want more buses on Lansdowne, with a fixed budget, then something has to be cut somewhere else. There's no such thing as a free lunch. You want more buses (which means more equipment, more support to maintain buses and more people to drive said buses), then someone has to pay for it.

You keep saying, pay, pay, pay.

Just to be clear, I never once said anything about not paying. I see the value in good transit.

I just asked, does what she did not raise the questions again about transit and how it needs to be improved? That's all. Not trying to get a free lunch.

Yeah, but, you said,
but the fact that the TTC doesn't supply enough service to ensure that people don't get kicked off in the first place?
You stated that the TTC doesn't supply enough service, so I asked you how you propose to correct your perceived lack of service.

So I ask again, perhaps more clearly, "what is your proposed solution to the "shitty service" and "doesn't supply enough service"?

It's real easy to say that the TTC supplies "shitty service", but it's a whole hell of a lot harder to come up with a solution to fix a situation.

(And as someone who regularly rides the subways and street cars, I disagree with this statement that the TTC supplies shitty service, but for now, let's just run with it)

The TTC is so piss poorly run it was only a matter of time that someone would do this. I refuse to use bus service in this city and I feel bad for people that rely on it to get around.

The TTC is hopeless, the fed and provincial governments are partially to blame as they don't want to properly fund it and have neglected to build at a regular pace to the point that they are going to have to play catch up for the next 10-20 years. I count myself lucky that I have the means to afford a car.

It was a short, peaceful protest.
She got her point across, I would have been pissed as well.
The TTC needs better funding.

Am I wrong? Is there enough bus/subway service for the city??? I don't think I am, and I am not the one who has come up with solutions. That is not my job. So why are you asking me? I want a properly functioning car, I don't know how that happens. That is why I hire a mechanic.

It is not just the TTC that is to blame, I agree. The government has not done enough either. There are people who work for the government, and the TTC who are supposed to figure this shit out. Don't you think the whole fight for LRT and subways was a pointless waste of time and money that has gone no where?

There are not enough buses for ridership. That is fact. The buses and subways are old, run down, not working properly. That is fact. Seems pretty shitty to me.

I am not against paying for more buses, etc. Nothing wrong with that, but don't blame me for the facts man. It just it what it is.

The TTC needs better funding.
It needs a better business model starting with zone fares on the subway at least. They also need to look at capturing the value of the real estate above and adjacent to stations by leasing them to businesses.
