I'm running Vista on my computer. The problem is that when I go to download MSN messenger, it won't let me do it since there is a pop up blocker on my computer somewhere. It may have something to do with the windows defender program as well. Does any one know how to disable the pop up blocker?

Thanks

Vista sucks...too many problems, most IT people will tell you to stay with XP.

Vista, vista vista...care to sit down and chat as you monitr everything that I do?

I am currently running Vista (hangs my head in shame) on my laptop and experienced no problems running MSN messenger. When downloading any programs, your screen should fade out, and ask you if you are sure that want to download it (because Vista is helping YOU....*shudder*)

Make sure you are downloading the correct version, and if that doesn't work try Windows Live Messenger...

(As to avoid any commetary based on the O/S that I am running....I will say that: As soon as I upgrade my RAM, I will downgrade back to XP...and I will LOVE every moment of it! ^_^ hehe)

Mine came with MSN already installed???????

I have had no issues with Vista at all
depends on whether it's VistaBasic, or Vista Premium (I think that's what it's called..) obviously - I have basic...T_T...

Doesn't Vista have the software rollback feature that will let you install and run programs that were intended for Win98 and XP but not necessarily Vista?

I believe that they may have intended for that to be the case, however, I have not had any luck installing programs intended for XP on this laptop -- wireless router / photoshop. (maybe I am doing something wrong?) Now I'm all worried! haha...not really.

Why bother with the rollback feature...if I can ROLL BACK TO XP! haha...:D

Now when i try to download MSN messenger the installation goes up to 99%, but won't finish. I still can't get the program on my computer. Why is that??

Maybe MS realizes MSN is too invasive and has stopped it.

Do you have any other firewalls running at the same time as Window's Defender? You may just be experiencing a little problem with clashing applications on your comp. As Asn said, try downloading the 2008 version directly from the MSN site, and you shouldn't experience any problems. And if all else fails:

Restart your computer...

I don't have VISTA but could this be one of those User Account Control (UAC) issues? Maybe turn it off and then try the install?

Actually noir, if all fails throw the computer out the window! True it won't solve anything but you will feel soooooooooo good afterwards!
Haha! I can just imagine a "Pray for Mojo" Simpsons moment.

*the PC displays download complete, just as it is thrown out the window!*

Yes, it does have that feature. Unfortunately, it didn't work for ANY of the five Win Me or Win XP programs that I tried to install.

I had to bring in a professional (and it took him several hours with a return call) to get my new HP laptop with Vista to be set-up on a wireless network in my home . He complained that Vista sucked and he had to upgrade my router to a Dlink that ended costing me $160.00 . Still have to reset the router more often than I would like . I think I will be installling Xp in the new year .

You should post this in the technology forum.
True.

In regards to Smylee52, I had a Linksys router, then purchased a D-Link before I got this laptop. If it weren't for the decent wireless card in this laptop, I wouldn't be connected to the internet at this moment.

I think that the Vista Service Pack 1 is due to be released soon; perhaps it can alleviate some of these roll-back issues...

:( There is such as thing as wishful thinking, MuffinMuncher. (just kidding!)

^_^ *Doesn't really make a difference to me. Vista is gone, with the old year! (I hope...)
