Well our best chance to have the Prostitution Law thrown out, or at least referred to the Supreme Court for Review, is to have Justin Trudeau win. I realize that he may not be the most experienced leader, but he will learn on the job as we all do, we certainly can't afford another 4 years of Harper and increased enforcement of C 36, and Justin seems to be our best chance at having the draconian C 36 thrown out or at least amended to be more 'Liberal".

Remember that enforcement of C 36 will be iffy until there's a new government in power, even if it's a minority, I believe Police agencies see C 36 as being on shaky ground constitutionally, the law would likely lose a challenge to the Supreme Court, and would probably prefer the Liberals to win so they can throw the stupid law out for good.

Bill C36 and politicians are like oil and water, quite simply they don't mix. Bill C36 is not an election issue for good reason, no politicians want to be associated with it as it cannot help andy party gain or hold office. Trudeau if elected will be no fan of johns for sure, he cannot afford to be. Harper was forced to impose a law, which has turned out to be impotent so far but sooner or latter Bill C36 will be tested.

It amazes me how naive and out of touch some people are with the realities of how things work.

If you think this is even remotely a priority for any party now, let alone Junior?

I despair for the lack of knowledge of the average voter.

Maybe in time, but not right away.

If there is another Supreme Court challenge and the laws get thrown out by the SOC like they did last time, then, I don't think you'd see the liberals being so draconian in what they replace C-36 with.

But will they introduce legislation on their own to repeal C-36?

Never in a million years.

True dat!

No politician will UNDO what another politician has already done... They "may" change it, but as far as undoing something goes... nope.

Harper was not forced to impose a law.. and certainly not one of the form we have now.
To quote Brian Mulroney,
"You had an option, sir. You could have said, 'I am not going to do it. This is wrong for Canada, and I am not going to ask Canadians to pay the price.' "

Sexual acts between consenting adults is none of the government's bloody business. I refuse to live in a Canada governed by theocratic, regressive, social conservatives. I will be voting against C-36, against Stepher Harper, and against the Conservative party.

Well his platform includes decriminalization of marijuana which would reverse the existing law.

I'm guessing the same thing.

There will be no change after the election. Any association with C-36 from any party is unpopular. If you ask any housewife or GF they will agree with C-36, so will husbands, BFs and hobbyist in public. The US will not go with the Nordic model because guns, bourbon and ho's are ingrained in their culture. The law will remain on the books and will be ignored as it has been in the last 10 months. The people that will get in trouble are traffickers, drug dealers and people that hire under aged girls.

It will take some lobbying from industry groups, and I think after some consultation they will water it down and alter it considerably. But it will not be a priority

Most likely it'll sit on a back shelf until challenged in court, where it will finally die.
Whether we go back to the previous state or get another attempt at a law is the question, but even that shouldn't be an issue for quite some time.

Torboy this thread is known as the triumph of hope over reason.

Or that you are willing to vote for the Grits, based upon your desperate hope that they actually plan to do anything about bill C-36, rather than acknowledging that they are every bit as beholden to left wing feminists who regard men as pigs and the industry as abhorrent, as you believe the Conservatives are to religious fundamentalists.

i don't think they would outright back out of C-36 but i could see them amending to it as it does nothing to help the women it was "supposed" to protect. The way the law is set right now isn't friendly to having Johns report things that the police really would be concerned about.

IMO the only thing that would truly protect the women is out right legalization and forcing the women to have a "green" card and work at a legitimate brothel and having them taxed (and tested for STDs on a regular basis).

We live in a country where people who take hard core drugs can go to specific locations to get clean needles (which helps protect them) but yet an escort doesn't seem to have the rights to a safe environment (which helps protect them). I understand C-36 was supposed to provide that but then again it was supposed to do a lot of things it made worse.
