Every single country in this world has a right to make their own policies, also known as self-determination.
President Trump has consistently indicated he is putting America first.
Foreign countries can try to convince America to change her mind, or the same foreign country can devise a counter-strategy to Trump's America first policy. The Prime Minister of Canada, Trudeau's son, has done neither.
You expect a foreign country to look out for Canada's interest? That clearly should be the Canadian government looking out for Canada's interest.
For such basic concepts since the formation of the nation state, it has always been like this.
