How dead in the water is she after this one?
Sounds to me like she is open minded

A great quality in a judge.

Would that the Christofascists agree with your assessment.
oddly you might find many do

But as you know first hand, some suffer from narrow mindedness.

Unfortunately, suffering from narrow-mindedness is part of what defines being a Christofascist.

I want to see what Spongebob Dobson, Pat Robertson, and Jerry Falwell have to say after this.

(I will ignore the "as you know first hand" part of your comment in a spirit of reconciliation that has come over me today. Don't rile me back up. )

Not sue what they may have to do with her appointment or acceptance.

As you might know or not know, once a canidate has been sent to the Senate for conformation it is up to the Senate to pass the canidate one for a yes or no vote.

C'mon papa. You are smarter than that.

A little nobody like -- oh say, Bill Frist, Majority Leader of the Senate -- sold his soul to Spongebob by appearing at the Justice Sunday event a few months ago. Both Pat and Jerry still have more than a few friends in the Senate.

This latest revelation will create howls of indignation and betrayal to add to the already long list of disgrunted Shrub supporters.

Sounds to me like you support her.

Now who should be more frightened me or you?

Actually, I do not support her -- for reasons of her showing no competence whatsoever for the job in which she has been nominated. Kinda like Michael Brown at FEMA.

However, my opposition to her pales in comparison to the hard right wingers' opposition, which is predicated on the fact that she is not enough of a raw-meat eater.

That said, the pick COULD have been a lot worse and we could have been looking at a protracted battle in the Senate with that fillibuster thing happening again.

If she gets rejected on a bipartisan basis (which is a distinct possibility), I suspect that the Shrub will cave to the hard right and nomiinate someone who would have been better off having been born in the 14th century. Were that to happen, all hell will break loose.

I vote NO. I think you'll find Miers supports the activities of Monica Lewinsky. George W. Bush Jr. "I know her heart" and that makes her qualiified. George W. Bush Jr." Democracy all across the world is at risk". I thought he wantd to "export" democracy? Takes one destroyer of democracy to know how another one, I guess.

George W. Bush Jr. ***must*** resign!

Bush Jr.s new referendum: Democractic voting to vote for or against the principle of democracy!

You're right, if she's not confirmed the Senate will be looking at a very conservative nominee the next time around. Boxer aside (as she's a one issue litmus tester) I think the Ds have to think long and hard if the devil you know is better than the one you don't. Bush has again shown his political touch by not giving the Ds a clear "scary conservative" nominee in either of the two he's had. I don't think Bush is as hell bent on having Roe-V-Wade overturned as many fear.

Lord know what HE thinks about RvW. However, his fan base among the Christofascists is pulling a nutty about the fact that Miers is not dead against it.

The hearings will be interesting, as the right wing will suddenly realize that questioning a nomineee about his/her views is not such a bad thing. THEN, which way she blows will determine how ugly things get from there.

I just wanna get my popcorn and soda ready so that I can watch the circus happen.

I do think he thinks about it, and would like it changed but it's pretty obvious that he could have nominated more reliably anti RvW justices had he been so inclined. Christofacists? Should I sink to the level of calling Boxer a baby killer? Grow up already. There are between 1.4-1.8 million abortions in the US every year - said another way, we kill 1% of our population every two years.

Yes, where you have politicians you have irony, when RBG was going through her nomination process the Rs wanted to ask her direct questions and the Ds wanted her to remain reserved, with Roberts the shoe was on the other foot, now they're both going to have the same questions for her. The right answer is probably the same regardless who is asking it, if it's an issue that can come before the court don't answer it.

I guess you could sound bite the position as: Save a criminal, kill a child....

But then I'd be TOVing myself.

An unborn baby hasn't done anything wrong. A Paul Bernardo has made a conscious decision to kill someone. That's the fundamental difference.

By the way, I'm only for capital punishment if there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever, and if the crime is particularly heinous (as in Paul Bernardo's case).

Simply put the unborn child did not commit a crime that calls for death as the punishment. Infact the unborn is an innocent and has caused no harm to any person what-so-ever.

If it's acceptable to arbitraily designate some members of the species, Homo Sapiens, as non-persons and kill them at discretion, the burden should be on the Left to make a case for why Bush shouldn't just pack them all off to the gas chamber ;)
