I don't see how the Yankees can let Judge walk. They will pony up whatever it takes to keep him there.

Judge has Homers, (+22), and RBIs, (+15), locked up. He's in a three way battle for batting average with Luis Arraez and Xander Bogarts; one percentage point separates the three:

He's also leading the AL in runs scored, walks, on base percentage and slugging percentage, but Shohei Otani might still win MVP.
I am one of the greatest procrastinators of all time. However, I will categorically predict, without reservation, that Aaron Judge will not win the Triple Crown in 2022, last won by Miguel Cabrera in 2012.

These triple crown numbers are cute, but they're boomer stats. Ohtani beats him in virtually every metric for value, and thus should win the MVP.

Yanks are in a lose-lose situation. Sign him and be bogged down by a massive contract, let him walk and lose half the offense, love it 😍

I agree. As good as he is and despite his great season, it is almost a certainty that the next contract he will sign will be a bad one for the team at the end of the day. He can command top dollar for a very long term. While he deserves top dollar in the short term, the reality is that the vast majority of players are at their peak in their late 20s and start declining around 32. A few rare exceptions maintain their peak a few more years. He is 30 and turns 31 next spring. If his next contract is 6 years or less it could work out well for Judge and the team if he stays healthy. However, his next contract will likely be much longer than that so....

Yes he turned down a 7 year term for a total of 213 million.

Word is he wants a longer term.

If you're the Yankees fan you don't want to go full Albert Pujols here.

The scuttlebutt is that they won't extend the term but will up the yearly.

Maybe 7 years at 280 or something closer to that. He'll make a great first bagger after the age of 35 I figure. Give him a longer career.

There's also a possibility that they let him walk and gear up for Ohtani after next year.

But whatever they do they can't let the Mets grab him. The ghost of George Steinbrenner would haunt them for an eternity.....
Do you think he lost a couple of million a year after his playoff performance?

I think he turned down about $31M per year. I'm guessing $37.5M, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets 40.

It used to be a big deal when players started getting over $100K/year.
IIRC, Nolan Ryan was the first million dollar a year player in the early 1980's.

Not sure really but one thing for sure it didn't help him any.

I don't think Judge has a lot of affection for Yankees GM Brian Cashman. He wasn't happy when Cashman told the press the deal that Aaron turned down. In these economically difficult times the average ardent Yankee supporter had a hard time reconciling Judges rebuke.

It's all part of negotiations I guess but to a player like judge who grew up in the organization there is an expectation of mutual respect and loyalty. It's my feeling that there was a tipping point there.

not at all. gone are the days where GMs give a shit about small sample sizes, even in the postseason. the game has evolved and they're getting smarter... but not so smart that they won't overpay him lol, so there's still room for improvement from baseball FOs

I’m glad he won the MVP. There were times during the season where he was the only one hitting on that team. This is a true case of “where would they have been without him.”

I can’t wait to check on YouTube once judge signs. Wherever that might be. So many good podcast shows these days.

Judge won with 28 out of 30 first place votes, so I was off a little. But still an easy win over Ohtani.
I agree(reluctantly, hate those yanks) that he was the mvp, but the voting should've been closer than that.

He was not that much more valuable than Ohtani. By WAR they were pretty close;

Just goes to show how obsessed baseball is with milestones, no wonder so many people have a complex about 73 🙄

Plus Ohtani 'got his' last year so it's easy to justify it.
