I never saw a more pure goal scorer. He got over 50 goals every single season except his last when his back forced him to retire. Was he even 30?
Give him an 18 year career and he easily reaches 1,000 goals.
I think its amazing feat for Ovechkin and I will be happy for him when he breaks the record. He's worked hard, he's passionate, he's never acted like a spoiled rich athlete, he's a good ambassador for the game. And it doesn't change the fact that Gretzky is still the greatest player of all time.
Gretzky will be there to shake his hand when Alex breaks the record no doubt.
But isn't Alex a Russian asset? I don't see the same hate from him on here as I do here for Wayne.
Before a huge fight breaks out over who's the greatest goal scorer, points leader, hockey player, etc., let me just say that none of the above will ever hold a candle to Jean Béliveau in terms of sheer class and being a great ambassador for the sport, and I say this as someone who's absolutely not a Habs fan.
