Or less accurate.

OTB
To call Germany a "white gated protestant community" is just so wrong on so many levels........ LOL

PS: You should go there sometime, I spent quite some time in Munich, which is a very nice city.

Germany is an impressive economy, it has a monolithic culture, people and productive workforce, fascists are very productive and disciplined people after all (and make great cars, see Japan for another example).
No need to be so humble there really.

Neo Con ain't too shabby themselves: waging convenient wars, brewing cool aids, herding sheeps. Grand masters they are if you ask me.

I should go, had a 10 day trip planned a couple of years ago but had to delay.....

Germany Ethnic Groups:
German 91.5%
Turkish 2.4%
Other 6.1%

Looks pretty white to me

Religion:
Protestant 34%
Catholic 34%
Muslim 3.7%
unaffiliated 28.3%

OK, you have me here, white gated christian secular community......

Odd that France isn't used as the example, they have a unionized workforce and long vacations....

Perhaps isn't something other than the socialist policies that drives good performance, I've said many times that white gated protestant communities, be they Northern Europe, German or suburban US, tend to do quite well.....

OTB

PS. a few facts:

Per Capita GDP (PPP):

US $46,000
Germany $34,100

US is 35% wealthier per capita

Public Debt:

US 52.9% of GDP
Germany 72.10% of GDP

US has 19% less public debt

Just saying....

Still, life for the average person is better in Germany than in the US. Most average people prefer long paid stat. holidays, health care, and some say in how their workplace is organized over the 'dream' that one day, they'll all be so rich that they can dispense with such state-sponsored supports. I dare say that even the average brainwashed american is waking up to this reality as this depression wears on. Oh right, actually a return to belief in god will save them all, revamp their failing educational system, repair their falling bridges and potholed roads, and return america to its former glory. Silly me for forgetting about that possibility.

A very simple thing in black and white here is Canada Man is a bigot when it comes to Americans.

He or she has consistently posted anti-American propaganda and make no bones about hating Americans.

To read anything more into this or any thread started by Canada Man is to fall into the trap it sets.

I say it because no human being hates as much as this one does.

Which is true and both hate without even knowing the people they hate.

Canada Man is kinda person who gets caught at the border with 3 pounds of pot and screams that it was unfairly arrested.

I wonder when it decided it hated Americans so much and why. I am sure it will have a bunch of political crap to spout but not one reason that hold water.

Oddly enough OTB's figures can be taken to show that the average German can do more with less as the average german lives longer than the average American (~ 20th place vs 40th place), yet by various quality of life studies the two change places. The US citizen is supposed to to have a better quality of life. In my mind one stat is easy to quantify and the second is a little more difficult.

I see, studies that support your point of view are credible, while ones that don't are hard for you to understand.

I am an American of British descent. My life expectancy is every bit as long, if not longer compared to people in England. If I were to have a serious medical problem, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be there. I work hard and can afford the best medical care and that is in the U.S.

Yes, Americans have the option of spending a lot of money on diagnostic tests, drugs, and treatments. But at least we have the option and the money. (Obama is trying hard to change that)

Where do Canadians go when they want the best medical care?

What other studies are you referring to?

Your rehashing the 'Canadians go to the US for treatment' topic. just shows you Americentric view. There are some that go and they get the headlines, but there are others, American s included, who come to Canada to get affordable/available/the best care. We also have the option you speak of as any Canadian can go anywhere for medical care, but most choose to stay here.

As far as your point that 'at we have the money for the extra cost', I'm under the impression that a large portion of the US population don't. Somebody else can pull that exact figure but I'll say ~50 million. Then there are those who are under insured. By using 'we' I'll assume you mean you.

No one I know, and I know quite an number, save one very famous NL premier (although I don't know him personally) have ever gone to the US or anywhere else to get medical care.

That is all good for you. However, it takes an extremely selfish (if not asocial) person to say that: "I have good health care, to hell with the ones who cannot afford it"

I go to the US (Mayo clinic) for health care when I cannot get timely service here in Ontario, simply because I can afford it. However, I still argue for the best possible health care for everyone in Ontario and every other place.

Wow. Your quote, attributed to me, is a flat out fabrication.

Your other statement proves my point, quite nicely. I stay in my own country to receive my health care. You choose to leave yours and spend more money for your care, because you can. Why aren't you giving that extra money to the needy. Hypocrite

What you may not know is that the governments of Canada will also send Canadians to other countries to get the care needed when time is a factor at no cost to the citizen or support those who go. The fact that they go to the US is often more a case of geography as it's next door and not a case of quality.

Interesting. Or as danmand stated "timely service."

If you can afford to travel to get health care, then good for you. There is nothing wrong with that, in fact you coudl easily argue you are easing the workload on our own system thus making it easier for Canadians to get health care who cannot afford to travel.

Canada and the US have many of the same problems...our health care costs are out of control...we have not hit the point of the US but we are headed there. It is not sustainable. Also we spend FAR too much of our GDP on our legal system and financial reporting. We really need to redirect labour away from many of these low to no value add sectors.
