I don't need to poll the people at Pride to know that people don't like their parties to be crashed.Did you poll the people at pride, or is this just you being offended on their behalf?
Is it all protesters you're angry at, or just the ones at pride?
And if you are going to rip-off Glen Foster's line of "being offended on others behalf", use it appropriately. And stop putting words in my mouth. Go eat a dick instead. I didn't say anyone was offended. I said that the Pro-Palestinian protestors should think of a more effective way to get their message across. I support their message, any message, to save Palestinian lives. I'd rather they be effective than garner contempt and hurt the cause.
But yeah, it did affect me. Not that it is any big deal but I actually planned to go to that Parade with a gf. As I've said many times, I simply do not have sexual attraction towards men, nor do I enjoy a MFF 3some for the FF part! But I do love it that the Gays are, well, so gay and seemingly happy being Gay. In my relatively short lifetime I have seen Canadian society progress from being called a fag or implying homosexuality as being the ultimate insult and societal demonization, to gay bath house raids, to being, 'fine just don't look at my cock in the bathroom', to 'fine, just don't flaunt it in my face, to 'great whatever makes consenting adults happy.'
I've been to N'Awlins and Mardi Gas back when it and the French Quarter were authentic, been to Burning Man for a day and a half, always wanted to go to Carnival in Rio and any other super, over the top positive celebrations. But haven't gone to the Pride parade. This year I had a health scare that made me realize how important every day, and every opportunity is. So I wanted to go. But when I heard that this group was going to protest... I both lost my happy feeling about going, and actually feared that just one fucking asshole might up the ante out of frustration and cause some bombing or violence. Or that the cops might over-rract as they did a few years back in that Kettling tactic. *I* almost got kettled in it while eating wings at Hooters! Except a cop who recognized me suggested I get out of Dodge as something big was going to happen in the area and I didn't want to get caught up in it!
Last Sat, I think, I was leaving a Mirage incall and was walking south on Yonge and came upon this asshole yelling shit from a U-Haul pickup truck at Dundas. There were maybe 50-100 cops protecting the protestors who claimed the intersection, then marched south on Yonge. I saw many cars and people being diverted as this group felt they could inconvenience anyone for their purpose. And fwiw, I recall the message being chanted was more like "Free Palestine from the river to the Sea" , not 'Save Palestinian Lives from Genocide."
So I decide NOT to go to this year's Pride parade. And this 'raising awareness' bullshit did not cause me to feel more supportive towards their cause.
Same with the Indian or Pakistani truckers rolling blockades of the Gardiner/DVP, and same with the Freedum Fighters in Ottawa.
FUCK all of them who interfere with the rights of fellow Canadians to go about their business.
Want to protest effectively? First rule is not to be an asshole.
