Based on last year’s playoffs performances, Vancouver should be the favourite, but this is going to be a very close division as all teams have their own flaws. My heart says Leafs with the additions of more experience, size and grit, but I wouldn’t bet my house on it.

Yes, Edmonton has the league MVP and Connor McDavid, that’s a pretty deadly combination...Toronto has some top flight talent up front, I like adding Thornton and Simmonds, they should make the Leafs more difficult to play against.

It's 56 games rather than 82 and all games played against only 6 other teams. I don't think there's a clear cut favourite. Other than Ottawa any of the other 6 teams can make the top 4. Montreal is probably the weaker team of the 6 but they have the best goalie tandem. The other 5 teams are pretty much on par.
It’ll be like original six hockey with that schedule...playing teams 7/8 times.

Toronto plays Montreal and Winnipeg 10 times and the other 4 teams 9 times for 56 games.
The other Divisions plays each of the other 7 teams 8 times.
There are triple headers on schedule. 3 games straight with the same team.

If you are stuck at home, the games are nice to have on TV.

Hmm. An unbalanced schedule. You play 9 games against 4 of the teams and 10 times against the other two teams.

Playing so many games against teams should produce some nasty grudges. Will there be more fighting this year because of this? It's almost like in the 6 team leagues they played each team 14 times in a 70 game schedule and boy, did those guys hate each other.

It's because it's still a 31 team league. Until Seattle comes on board. So the Canadian Division only has 7 teams whereas all other Divisions have 8 teams. So the teams that get Ottawa as a bonus game has a slight advantage but 2 points could be the difference.

Montreal picked up Corey Perry. He's always a disturber.

Leafs had a lot of injuries last year. At times both Rielly and Muzzin were out. Tavares and Hyman were injured to start the season. Marner was also injured for a time and Johnsson was injured to end the season. The year prior they were relatively healthy and were a much better team. Rielly played all 82 games and scored 20 goals. So I would say at a minimum Leafs are a middling team with injuries. If they stay healthy they are one of the better teams.

Prior to this year they could absorb injuries to forwards because they had the depth but not on defense. Which showed big time when Muzzin was injured in the 2nd game of the play in round. This year they have more depth on defense and what looks like better quality. Their backup is also improved with Campbell over Hutch.

I’ll be cheering for the Habs but will be taking some action on the Canucks and the Leafs to hopefully go deep
Will be interesting to see how an all Canadian division pans out on a shortened season with covid in the mix ....

The question I’d like to ask, which team has the best goaltending and defence ? Edmonto, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver have the elite forwards but their d and g are suspects. My biased view is that the Leafs are better than the other three. In Montreal Price and Weber are their best players and might be the best combo in their prime, but both are nearing seniors status by hockey standards.

What amazes me is that these teams have so much talent (except for Ottawa) and yet can't get to the cup finals.

I'll watch it every night, just like the summer NHL schedule...if you don't like it, don't watch it...you won't be missed!
Oh, I will be missed...and thousands upon thousands others, too.

This is, or should be, a make or break year for the Leafs. So, far the "CORE" have accomplished less than nothing. Sorry to be so blunt.

The fact that this core hasn’t accomplished much is imo primarily due to a flawed management strategy of going with small and supposedly more skilled fringe players with zero grit and toughness for the past two seasons. Many fans including you and me have been complaining about it and now it seems Dubas has finally realized it after wasting away two prime years of this core group.
