unless you've killed someone or are engaged in a MAJOR criminal conspiracy - then you are pretty safe.
Or some Crown investigating an incall that is suspected to have employed underage girls or illegal immigrants, building a case against the agency...

Not during the years that I've used vBulletin. If they did build it into the software, it didn't last too long. Maybe there might have been a 'hack' to do that, but not to my knowledge.

I answered your question in my first post.

I never knew they even came out with that. I know at one point they came out with the option of Admin being able to adjust the users password, but not to see the pms. Betcha it didn't last long.

Not true.

And even so, I believe that the location of your server has to figure in with the court order doesn't it Fred? Or should I say Oagre lol.

It's always nice to have your own server

I would imagine that if someone with craft wanted to 'hack' into most web sites, they could, if what they were to gain was very very interesting, but for those who are crafty, they usually like a challenge or money.. lol... for them.. TERB has neither.
Kayla: You are turning me on with your "nerd" education! I love female nerds.. :)
I would ask you to marry me, but I'm already married but come to think of it, in some countries it is allowed to have more than 1 wives. lol I'm kidding..

Ladies and Gents: Lets face it, if you have Admin righs or Super admin etc etc you can get in and view anything you want within an ISP, Corporate et etc. You are being watched not matter what and there is nothing can be done to stop it.

on vBulletin.org there are many hacks and tools that even a non-moderator can get information that the forum setup disallows. not sure about PM's, though.

That isn't correct.

Only individuals who hold a vBulletin license can download from www.vbulletin.org, and once someone has downloaded a mod/hack/plugin, they can't install it here unless they are a member of the Administrator usergroup.

The mod eyeofthedragon has linked to is for vB 3.5 (which was out of date by 2007). Terb runs on vB 3.8, so the mod would be incompatible and unable to be successfully installed here (if someone bothered to try). People have nothing to worry about. The Terb mods and Fred are trustworthy. No one is reading your PM's apart from the recipients.

I don't know why this isn't obvious but maybe it needs to be said:

Do not write anything in your PMs that is illegal, or which would get you in legal trouble. They are not really THAT private, they could be fetched with a warrant, but they are private enough for pretty much anything else. Nobody is going to go to the trouble of reading your PMs only to find out who you really are or that you are cheating on your wife or what escort gave you a special rate or that you secretly like the cock or whatever it is you want to keep private unless what you're doing is illegal enough to spawn a police investigation.

Assurances such as this are pretty much worthless. Also, when you search on vbulletin and sql injection, there are enough hits to raise eyebrows (and once you have sql injection, it is pretty much game over). I have seen people think they have secure sites, and only when a standalone audit trail was put in place was it clear things were not as they seemed (never mind exploit tools).

Bottom line is you need to assume people are reading them and should have no compromising information.

Ok, here is another one of my major PM pet peeves. You spend countless hours composing an 800 word love letter to Escort Amazon. You click on the "submit" button. Within seconds you get the following systems message:

ESCORT AMAZON DOES NOT ACCEPT PM'S. GO AWAY.
PLUS, HER "BOX" IS FULL.

By default PM viewing is not part of Vbulletin. You can however install the plugin that will allow any admin or usergroup to view members PMs.

I know this for a fact as I have installed it on some forums.
