I dropped my favourite fountain pen, a Pelikan M400, and the cap cracked. $135 US to replace the cap. Sadly, I actually enjoy writing with my $45 Lamy Safari, at ~1/10th the price of the Pelikan, than I do with the M400, so I'm torn as to whether to replace the cap on the Pelikan or buy a cheapo FP as my backup (my Mont Blanc 152 has been refurbished twice already so I'm not too keen on putting it back into action).

I. Am. White. Man.

I say look for a knock off form aliexpress.com or another Chinese site. You'll save a ton of $$$, only you'll know that it's not real, and it will probably be almost, if not just as good!

It sounds like a cheaper hobby than my motorbikes. And, of course, my other hobby :)

I had problem with my montblanc too. I got a Namiki japanese fountain pen for 350$. That pen is bulletproof and really nice.

Why is this a "white man problem"? Are you trying to say that only white man can appreciate good fountain pens?? Seems a little racist?

The pen was $400. Replacement cap is $135. Believe me these things get much pricier than that, too! It was a birthday treat to myself several years ago. I have horrible handwriting but using a fountain pen forces me to slow down, and they are a dream to write with and very stunning to look at. Given how much money I (we all) squander on consumable pleasures - like this delightful hobby lol - a couple outrageously priced pens isn't so big a deal! They last longer than a one hour incall at the same price lol.

A Lamy Safari is a nice introduction to quality fountain pens if you want to test drive one. Rock solid German construction and only about $40.
