Depends if he's a real man or a somewhat effeminate one.

A Mustang is a man's car (with the v8 of course). An American icon. Nothing beats an American V8 under the hood. Nothing, especially for the price. If he can afford it I would tell him to look at a late model Corvette as well. A Zo6 will easily hold their own against European super cars costing tens of thousands more.

Owning a late model Mustang as my summer toy has been pure pleasure to me. It's a mood changer for me every time I go for a cruse when I feel and hear those 300 American ponies under my left foot.

Don't get me wrong, a Porsche is a fine automobile. I'm sure it would be a blast to drive as well, but it is soulless.

Asian car's also lack soul. They are fine appliances though.

Speaking as a car guy, I would tell him to get the Shelby hands down.

A girl that is interested in your car instead of you just wants your money.

300 ponies under your LEFT foot? Do you drive with your legs crossed or is that some newfangled American setup? :D

(Most cars I've been in have the throttle on the right, but I haven't driven an American car in a while)

And that's a problem why? lol.....

Actually, I stand corrected, a Z06 vette is a more accurate comparison to the porsche.....

I forgot to add that the mustang will be thousands cheaper to maintain as well. I remember back in the 80's I was looking at a 911 turbo carrera. I inquired about maintainance and the FIRST service check (no parts) was $1800.00 then. Tires were a grand a piece. A brake job was $12K. Need I go on?

Now the GT500 mustang won't be cheap either but it'll be about half to 1/4 what the porsche is....

Drove a 911 Carrera for years, nice car, fast, great lines. Started looking for something new. Test drove the Viper, absolutely brutal to drive, more horsepower than common sense. Tested a BMW M3 really well finished, handled well, fairly active for speed.

Tested the new 2008 Corvette. I ended up with the Corvette, 6.2 L V8, 6 speed manual. The end price was a few thousand less than the Bimmer, many thousands less than the Porsche, and many thousands less than the Viper. The finish is not in the same class as the Bimmer or the Porshe, but I do enjoy it. Cheers GB PS: no I am not having a mid life crisis!

If he can't decide himself and needs to ask you, I say ask him to get a Ford Focus.

European cars are going to ding you on parts and service. A 2-3 hour inspection at MB is now over 700 dollars.

Thanks to our friend Bernanke the dollar doesn't buy you anything anymore.

What, no one has mentioned the new 2008 Skyline GT-R yet??

http://www.edmunds.com/nissan/gtr/2009/review.html

Japanese built, specs sorta like a 911 Turbo (480 HP, AWD) priced at about 70k US MSRP, should be available Spring 2008. Not as attractive as a 911 though.

Anyone thinking of Cayman/Zr1/GT500 should at least test drive a GT-R

BTW - the interior on the Mustang is pretty awful compared to the others (yes, I've sat in a GT-R in Tokyo in the Nissan showroom, it's pretty nice).

Also, in the Mustang the seats became extremely uncomfortable after about an hour (Rented one on a business trip...argh, mistake!)

Checked out the Skyline nearly impossible to get a firm order from dealers here in Ontario. Only 1200 alloted for Canada. Great set of wheels!

I'm not sure if I should be insulted by that post or not....If it were up to me I'd choose the 2008 Lexus IS-F.....
