Where to find the best FRESH seafood, at reasonable prices

I am a foodie, who loves to cook. I was recently at the St. Lawrence market and saw my favorite fish (red snapper) for 15.99/lb. I love my fresh fish and it did look good but I'm sorry 30 bucks + for 1 raw fish is pushing it.

Any suggestions where to buy fresh seafood? I love shrimp, snapper, tilapia, scallops! ! I heard China town is good, but which store?

I am not sure if prices however Diana's Seafood is on Lawrence by Warden. They have live seafood of just about anything you want (live fish lots of types, live lobsters, crab, oysters etc).

There is also a place called Beaver Fishery on Milner between McCowan and Markham Rd.

It is the Canadian dollar at 0.73 / US Dollar. Any meat / veg / fish from outside of Canada will be expensive. Try buying Canadian products for now. Lots of Canadian seafood to choose from. I suggest some halibut or lobster.

And due to the dollar no matter what the prices will be high.

Two suggestions for St. Lawrence Market and buying seafood.

One is to go on Saturday for two reasons. Earlier at the Fish Market beside Future Bakery they will have a tray of fish bit at 9.99 lbs. It usually has salmon, ahi tuna, shark, Marlon etc. A mix of odd pieces.

The second thing is usually starting at 3:30 pm all the fish markets will start offering deals on items as they are closed for two days after Saturday. So by waiting to pounce you can find good deals. Buy a bunch and freeze.

It's what I do. Beyond that searching the city for a few bucks off here and there won't be worth it in the long run.

I believe if you go to St.Lawrence on Saturday a couple of hours before closing time you can get fish cheaper -- most of my downtown friends say it is so ive never done it before

I did not know that they discounted after 3.30. I did have an experience where I was picking out lobsters at the lobster tank and this guy came along and changed the price from $7.99 / lb. to $7.99 each.
Some of the lobster in the tank were 1-1/4 and slightly bigger, most were under a lb. or 1 pounders. Being that I was the first to see the sign change, I got all the big ones out of the tank.

BTW - The best eating lobsters are 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 lb. Any bigger and you are paying for shell.

T&T is really good for FRESH and reasonably priced sushi. They have a high turnover of fish so it is always fresh and their asian clients are price sensitive.

I've never bought the fresh seafood displays at Costco, but I find their meat pretty good.... although I don't buy it much as it's too much quantity.

Any Costco shoppers know how good those fresh fish and lobster displays are at Costco?

Diana's my fav. Costco not much variety. When in season their whole Sockeye salmon is pretty cheap vs other major stores.

BUT they don't clean it for you so i opt to buy from Diana and I think the latter always look fresher as the turnover is good.

If you have the knives and good in filleting Costco's whole salmon maybe worth a try.

Costco has good mussels, a great value in a two-pack and they stay fresh. They are on the smaller side
Diana is great for oysters - best deal is the Malpeque in the cardboard boxes of 40+. Please watch your fingers when you shuck them, beating off will never be the same again otherwise
T&T is pretty good most times for anything you want, so that is a safe go-to choice with lots of locations now.

But my all time favourite fish to eat. Is. Chilean Sea Bass ........this fish is expensive but delicious
