Bretheren,

Looking for some advice from your personal experiences where the best place is to buy used mid to high end clubs. I am looking to upgrade my irons specifically, 4-PW.
I am a 15 hdcp on good courses. Played about 40 times last year looking to head out more this year and in need of clubs that could help me potential drop a couple of strokes of my handicap.

TIA, Chivas

Try kijiji. There's a lot of junk on there, but sometimes you will find some really nice clubs.

Also try Facebook marketplace

the absolute best place by far is www.torontogolfnuts.com classified section under right or left handed clubs. Most of the sellers are knowledgeable and reputable.
If you can't find any good used clubs, for drivers, fairway woods and hybrids I highly recommend Tour Edge Exotics. They are reasonably priced mainly because they do not sponsor golf pros. Brandt Snedeker uses their fairway woods. I use their driver, 5 7 and 4 hybrid which is the best club I have. I have demoed the top brands at twice the price, no contest. They are chard to find, suggest you go to their website. I am 79 years old, handicap 18. Oh, forgot, don't know much about their irons, but again, their woods are great.

I haven't been in a while (last time I went it wasn't as good as it's been in the past) but Golftown Demo sale is a possibility. Some of the clubs are brand new while some iron sets have been barely hit. These sets run from beginner to top of the line. Is there even a Demo sale during a pandemic? I don't know but it may be an option for you.

Try Golf Avenue, i bought a used Taylor Made M6 Driver for around $325 all in, normally listed at $499.99 before taxes and shipping. Showed up in 4 days and still had the stickers on the shaft and club face. Looked like it was a demo and was hit a less than 5 times, I could only find that many imprints on the tape on the clubface.

I checked out their demo sale one time. The salesperson was talking about how easy it is to return if the clubs are too beat up. I said, why would they be beat up because they always tape up the faces of the demos.

He then told me that A LOT of the demos are actually rental clubs at golf courses that courses have returned back to Golftown. They take a lot of abuse.

I live close to golftown and use to visit often looking for any good sales, however, prices on golf clubs including those on clearance are still too expensive IMO.

Call up driving ranges and ask if they have any used clubs to sell? Be prepared to negotiate.
There is a Play It Again Sports on Gerrard St. East that carries a wide range of clubs. Bought a used Wilson driver for my wife for $100. there. Told her it cost $300. Don't tell her. LOL.

Not long to go before there are numerous garage sales in the Spring. My neighbour picked up a used set of Ping G25 Golf Clubs that were in meticulous condition for $250. He still raves about it. Apparently that retiree who got sold it to him always keeps on upgrading his golf clubs every two or three years.

How about estate sales? I have been at sales in the past where I have seen them, garage sales as well. That was then, of course...

Golf Avenue, couple of us that play on a regular basis have purchased clubs from there. They have new, slightly used, and used clubs. Single clubs and sets. I bought a full set of Taylor Made R5 three years ago for $465 slightly used. Very little scuffs on irons only really thing I had to do is get the 3 wood regripped.

One thing to be aware of buying used clubs, especially woods is to make sure that the shafts are suitable for your swing such as clubhead speed particularly if you are a senior. Stay away from stiff shafts. Alas, my shaft is not very stiff anymore.

Stiff shafts are great for sex, not for golf, at least for most of us. lol

It sounds like you’re pretty serious about your game, if you’re looking to improve, I would look at at custom fitted. If you’re going to spend that much per year on club membership and/or green fees then you can afford to play with clubs that are tuned to your size, power and swing.

I would look at used clubs for my wife or kids if they were just starting or played 2-5 rounds per year.

Do you have a suggestion for where to get a custom fit? I was at golf town recently and the sales guy was not particularly engaging in conversation.
