Yes, the person who posted the original thread definitely has alot of nerve to address such an issue. However, I do not regard them as immature, but very mature and intellectual, discussing an issue which, we, as a society like to sweep underneath the rug and not talk about it at all.

I do not understand why provocative and sensitive things can not be discussed. It is discussions like these that make us understand our neighbours better.

You can have a provocative discussion about a sensitive topic such as mandatory language skills for newcomers.

Calling immigrants "assholes" who don't belong in "our" country because of their language skills is not being provocative - its being bigoted. Suggesting that immigrants are lazy because you happen to see people who you think are immigrants at the mall is not discussing an issue - its just redneck jabbering. Although Musketeer attempted to discuss the issue of immigrants and crime (he was wrong, but at least tried to raise the tone of the discussion), the others on the anti-immigrant side did little but hurl epitaths.

Anyone who's read my posts knows that I'm not a fan of censorship and believe that the way to deal with idiots is to discuss why they are racist morons, not to silence the thread. Humiliation almost always works better than censorship. That said, several of the posts (most notably mtlguy's comments to BigBlack) went well beyond the bounds of what most would consider acceptable discourse here or anywhere else.

The disappointing thing isn't that the thread was deleted, but that the moderator who was participating allowed a number of racist insults to stay unchallenged/uncensored.

I couldn't agree with you more "The Shake". Why would the mod allow racist insults to go on? I thought this was a review board for escorts, massage parlours & exotic dancers? This really makes me sick & I was really offeneded by it. I think I will be deleting my member ship here from terb.

The mods can't read EVERY single thread Jenna. It's just not possible given that they do their job voluntarily. The odd time they get a Frisbee. It is possible that the mod in question did not read the thread until the offending post had already been up.

I'm sorry you were offended by the comments but at the same time the world is full of far more offensive material than what goes on here. I think you need to take a deep breath and not be so dramatic. TERB has never knowingly condoned this type of behavior. Remember Jenna, the comments that are made were reflective of the individual and not of the entire membership.

TERB has never knowingly condoned this type of behavior.

n_v - Perhaps you didn't read the thread. A Mod chimed in to defend the first bigot with her own tragic tale of Pizza Pizza ordering frustrations. She then chastised someone for calling one of the bigots a name, saying that it had been "an interesting and respectful thread" up to that point.

I'm sorry, but how is a thread titled "Immigrants Suck" or comments like "the assholes should get out of my country" at all respectful? Basically, the suggestion was "slur millions of people, just don't insult someone personally"!!!!!

The same person then suggested that immigrants were lazy because "she sees them at the mall".

As I never read the thread I may have been premature in commenting about this. My response was more far more general regarding the mods and their ability to read all threads. But your point is well taken Pistol Pete. I stand corrected.

Apparently, you can't put Mods on ignore. As the PM that I received from the user now comes up as "DELETED USER", I assume that he was banned for his insolence.

As per Paul's thread about listing the moderators, I think that this sort of thing should be handled by Fred - or the mod in question.

There was no denial of it when Jack Ridgeway made his claim, though.
