He said that Materazi pulled on his shirt, that he offered Materazi to give him the shirt after the game, and that Materazi said words that disturbed him deeply, (he can't even repeat them), he walks away and Materazi repeated the same insults, 3 times.....at that point he confirms that the insults were about his sister and his mother, and that he apologizes to kids around the world for what he did, but that he cannot regret doing it, because he could not accept those insults and not do anything.

Oh please, what kind of society do we in the western world live in? If I'm walking down the street and someone I know insults me verbally, calling my sister and mother everything in the book, do I have the right to then slug him? What kind of civilization will we have if everytime someone uses verbal insults and then we're allowed to retaliate physically???? We have laws to govern our behaviour and how people should be penalized for breaking them.

Materazzi verbally insulted Zidane and is it now acceptable for Zidane to use physical force to retaliate? Regardless of what kind of scum you think Materazzi is, Zidane is one rung below him for retaliating the way he did. Don't make Zidane seem like some local hero now, geez.

I played sports at the national level in my younger days and was constantly insulted on the field and on the court, they did it to throw me off my game. It was so tempting to knock some guys' teeth out when they discriminate against my heritage and my parents, including my mother, but I knew better. The best way I knew to retaliate was to beat them in the game, that gave me all the satisfaction I needed. I realized those guys didn't really know me or my parents, etc.. and I didn't take it personally, it was their way of getting into my mind so I would make mistakes and they would succeed. I would take things more personally if someone I knew very close started to insult my mother and sister, not from some guy who doesn't know them.

Cant believe people still talking about this........

Anyways the best part is now Zidane may be stripped of the Golden Ball Award, i belive Cannavaro was about 30ish votes behind him, i guess he would recieve it then.

so because YOU kept your cool i guess the entire world has to be like you? Jeeze, just like you said, why kind of society do we live in if everyone was the same.

If you were to play street basketball in NYC and you pulled off a silly stunt by insulting another person's family or heritage, you would be dead.

You need to learn the common respect between athletes, when you trash talk, there is a limit, don't cross it. Yes Materazzi got the better of Zidane but should he be proud for what he did, i certainly hope not

it won't happen. It would only have been stripped if he did not come out with an explanation to his head butt.

If he does get strip, the french are going to cause issues with FIFA. Like Cannavaro stated "I got what i wanted"

Hey Wonk......I played 22 years in leagues in Montreal, and you know what, insult my mother and my sister and pray to get out of there alive.....but even that won't help......stop thinking you're superior and know everything, cause you don't.

We knew this already, why does he bother giving a news conference for that???

FIFA president Sepp Blatter said Zidane could be stripped of his Golden Ball award for the best player at the World Cup due to violent conduct.

"The winner of the award is not decided by FIFA, but by an international commission of journalists," Blatter said in Wednesday's La Repubblica. "That said, FIFA's executive committee has the right, and the duty, to intervene when faced with behavior contrary to the ethic of the sport."

Yes I do think all sportsmen should keep their cool, but we know that's not always possible, therefore we have rules and they are punished if they break them, just like laws in our society.

If you were to play street basketball in NYC and you pulled off a silly stunt by insulting another person's family or heritage, you would be dead.
This is a joke right? You see the relevance of this? And your point is??????????

You're right, we all need to learn common respect between athletes but if there's trash talk that goes over the limit, that doesn't give the other party the license to physically abuse the initiator because he crossed the line.

yes, i agree that physical harm was not the way for Zidane to react, he could of easily have just gone up to Materazzi and just spoke face to face but thus didn't.

I still believe that there has to be a mutal respect among players about what is said on the pitch. Different people react differently, perhaps if Materazzi was talking to Henry like that, Henry would just run off, who knows. Its the thing of the past, Materazzi is a World Cup winner good for him but he will also be marked as being a dirty tactician.
