Hot hamburger sandwich smothered in gravy, with fries and coleslaw on the side.

Anglo culture isn't as food-centric as some others. It doesn't help that we're living in a deep freeze half the year; I mean what's a famous Icelandish food besides herring? Cold barren countries don't produce very memorable cuisines, imho.

I lived in TO from 1972 - 1994 and have never eaten corned beef. I also believe that corned beef is not a staple in Ireland and that Irish Americans started the whole corned beef and cabbage thing for St Patricks Day.

IMHO...Toronto is known for Jamaican patties, panzerotti's and roasted chestnuts (that is going back a bit, but those guy downtown near the Eaton's windows were always roasting chestnuts and selling those candied apples.)
Well I've lived in Toronto since the early 1960's and for my Toronto is was Corned Beef and Cabbage. Jamaican patties didn't show up here until the 1980's.

We're probably a good choice for Chinese but the best isn't in Toronto proper, it's in Markham.
Shhh, don't tell a particular senior Terb member with 8,670+ less than useful posts. He still thinks Chinese food in GTA is egg foo young.

Roasted Chestnuts right on

Ah, the roasted chestnuts. I remember going drinking at The Underground (a mock up of a London station) where the Eaton's Centre is now, and coming out on a cold January morning and finding 4 or so of the chestnut guys with their charcoal heaters, the bags of hot nuts, and the music.

What food is Toronto known for? None that I can think of. I like corned beef, but it is not a "Toronto" food, it started in the UK AFAIK.
I remember this, this is the best post but I do not think it is still around. Best one so far

As far a the sushi one I do not think it appeals to enough people and is a native to an Asian country

Hong cover can have that as there native food

Webbers is not in Muskoka, it is on the way to Muskoka. And Muskoka chairs are also known as Maine chairs. Want to guess where they probably appeared first?

IMO it's rather hard to peg any specific food type to YYZ since it is so multi cultural. Love it just the way it is :p
