I do not answer unless caller is in contact list or I am expecting a call

I will check voicemail

If they left silent message in voice mail I block caller

The only way to deal with them is to give them the silent treatment. The second you give them a moment of your attention, they will hound you to the ends of the earth. Worse still if you happen to fall for their bullshit, your number gets added to a list of dupes that gets passed around in these circles and the calls will never end.

Sometimes I like to play with them, then I will ask them if their mother is proud of them, if they tell their children they are ripping people offf for a living.. usually they {always} hang up on me!! what nerves...

I live by a simple rule. If I don't know the number I won't answer. If they leave a message I'll return the call IF it's legit, otherwise it gets blocked. I don't need to waste my time talking to these morons. And yes, there seems to be a lot more spam calls than a few years ago.

100% the same, except I will also block them if they leave no message at all. A legit caller would leave a message. TBH. I get more "no message at all" than a silent message.

Sometimes I let the person go through their whole spiel then say " sorry I was distracted, would you mind repeating it?" I let them start then say no thanks and hang up.

I pick up unknown calls with' the word spoken by me NOT: Hello.
Instead I say: Answering.
Most of the AI in the dialling system that matches calls to live call takers at the call center is queued to forward only on Hello.

Then I block the number,
But in all likellyhood it a smurfed phony number showing up, so that is not 100% effective.

I have my phone set to send unrecognized callers directly to voicemail if they’re not in my contacts list.

That's a good idea.

I answer sometimes, and play along. But, I don't bother blocking their numbers, since they spoof them anyways. My favourite is when they pretend to be the credit card company but have thick indian accents. They always ask about suspicious purchases and have my name and address...BUT...they obviously cannot tell me the last four digits of my credit card...I string them along for a while until I get bored...I even had my nephew speak gibberish to them, which really pissed them off....lol

I got one talking away in Mandarin a while ago. I tried learning Mandarin for a couple of months so I hit her with.
: Wǒ bù huì shuō pǔtōnghuà
That stopped her in her tracks.
