Prostitute, whore, hooker, escort, call girl, companion, courtesan, service provider etc.

Some may say it depends on the wide range of services or price while others will say it makes no difference that they are all the same thing. Others will say that they are all still women and should be treated with respect and should never be called by a few of the names.

So which name sounds better to you? Do you use a different name when out with the guys and then another when confronting a lady of the business? I think that whatever name a woman chooses for herself can define a lot of how she views herself as well as how men view women.

But, let the discussions begin.

I've allowed for multiple choices as some may use a different term in e-mails, over the phone or while talking to a lady etc...

I am curious as I feel a lot of new people have come aboard and people change. Many were not around back then and may not have understanding of sp's or the more longer term Gentlemen that are still here. It never hurts one to hear sp's feelings on the issues. It may help to bring about respect.

On the Terb, and if talking to SP's about other SP's, I use the term "SP" as that is the standard term used on Terb. In my own mind though, or in discussions about events in the news with people (who don't know I hobby) I use the term "call girl" as that is the natural term that I think of. For example, "Hey Ted, did you read that the governor of NY was caught seeing a call girl?" Using the term "SP" with people not in the hobby or the biz would make me sound like the man who knew far too much about the hobby/biz haha.

To me, "escort" implies a courtesan in a sense in that one takes escorts out to balls, events, public dinners, etc and they act dress talk normally like any woman their age/education level would and guests aren't supposed to know they're an escort. Again, the NY gov didn't take his agency girl out with him to events (escorting), he saw her in a hotel out of sight. Since I see incall SP's frequently and don't pay them to appear with me in public (was going to once for a special occassion but didn't end up doing it), I don't think of them as "escorts" because they are not escorting me anywhere. I think "Call girl" because I want to come over for an hour, so I call them (or their agency) and I come over.

On Terb I use "SP".

Prostitute is a clinical term that tends to make me think of either the street scene, or else a moral or political debate about legalities.

Well, a rose by any other name WILL smell as sweet.

With that being said I use the term sp to describe the ladies we normally encounter here on terb, hookers for the ones trolling jarvis, and a courtezan is an sp that really thinks highly of herself lol. (but seriously, if I read "courtezan" in the description I'm thinking more along the lines of refined elegance, dressed in a simon chang evening gown, wearing a diamond tennis bracelet while she pours me a glass of chateau 1912.....)

Prostitute -- A clinically correct word for when you want to be clinically correct. Like calling a pussy a vagina.

Whore -- The word that SHOULD be right, if our society could only do away with the stereotypes and the stigmas, but until then highly offensive. Maybe some day to be reclaimed.

Hooker -- A prostitute who is also a hustler, someone who will try and figure out how much you can afford to pay and charge you that much. Probably a street walker or other low-end situation.

Escort / Call girl -- Specifically means out call and therefore is not as inclusive as prostitute or whore

Companion / Courtesan -- Pretentious words for people who are trying to avoid using other terms

Service Provider -- The euphemism we use instead of "whore" because "prostitute" is too clinical and we don't want to offend anyone. A term that should go away when the word "whore" finally becomes respectable and non-offensive.

I prefer "Sex Worker", because it encompasses dancers, MPAs, etc. And it is neutral, just a statement of fact, not negative like whore, or pretentious like courtesan.

like the first three terms, i wont mince words.. it is what it is, favours/gratification of a sexual nature in exchange for monetary compensation. the remaining terms in the poll are at best feeble euphemisms that are more often than not employed to assuage guilt/shame from either party.

those terms might not be apropos for polite conversation but most SP's, MPA's and dancers are well aware of what they do, denying it makes you look delusional, a moron or an ideal repeat client.

that being said, i'm partial to whore and punchable nun.
