Okay now you are just being silly, and I did note the wink.

Arthur Currie was a much underrated innovater whose boldness saved thousands of lives.

I know I've read of him.

Arthur Currie was one of Canada's finest commanders.

However don't discount Jean Chrétien who stood up for Dubya when others around him called Dubya a moron.....:p

My buddy from the states (in the army, got back from Iraq) asked me.
I mentioned our troops in Afghanistan, but that was it.
I never gave it much thought. lol
What do we really do throughout the world.
I'm guessing peacekeeping missions through the UN?
Anything else?
I don't know. Canada is a land of beaver and it is famous for having hot ladies of different varieties :p

We take immigrants from everywhere. Feed them give them OHIP cards and then force them to vote Liberal.

Did anyone mention we are one of the largest military suppliers in the world ? Kind of ironic given we have most likely the weakest army in the developed world.

Well, it's true that he wasn't a Canadian, but he spent much of his later years summering in Cape Breton, inventing things and working with the deaf including Hellen Keller.
So some guy spends just a little time here 'cause it reminds him of his home country of Scotland, and all of a sudden we claim him as our own? Frankly I find that kind a pathetic canadian trait; like reminding people that captain Kirk was a canuck when he's spent most of his life in California, has had American wives and considers himself american. Ditto for Jim Carrey.

Alot of Canadians i've met down south don't particularly care much for their canadian pasts, to my surprise, and are forever grateful to the USA for having given them the opportunities to build a great life. In fact, I even heard expressions like...'you couldn't pay me enough to go back there', 'I spent the most miserable years of my life there...I'll never go back' but more often the comments were along the lines that they liked it here but were tired of being taxed into the ground and there not being too much opportunities here compared to the US to make enough money and enjoy life.

By the way...what do you think we're known for overseas? Nothing. There was a recent report from the OECD which showed a rapidly declining share of Foreign direct investment coming here (which has not taken place in the US- it's share has remained stable), and how our exports are skewing again to our old standby's of Oil, timbre, and agricultural products. Most of Capitalization on the TSX is made up of resource producers and the banks and other financial firms that finance them; all the rest doesn't make up for more than 15-20%......Can't we just get real??!!

Jim Carey spent most of his life in Canada. He grew up and went to high school in Burlington.

This thread was started by someone asking what Canada has done for the world. Personally, I don't think actors make much of a contribution anyway, so who cares if they denounce their home country.
