What good does sanctioning Russia do?

Its funny that you recognize this fact with Russians but deny it with Islamic terrorists. That you would paint all "Russians" with one broad stroke yet accuse others of racism if they take a hard stance on Islamic terrorists.

Before you go poking out the eyes of "Russians" you might want to show many Canadians/Americans have been killed by Russians... how many killed in North America by Russians.

I don't think anyone is saying that all Russians are dangerous adversaries. The truth is however that the country is run by a kleptocratic murderer whose agenda is to destabilize his neighbours and global rivals with a view to obtaining hegemony in the long term. That same guy controls all major media in his country and eliminates his political opposition with show trials or by murdering them.

The average Russian buys into the government BS that the US is going to invade Russia and make them all peons. In 1941, not all Germans were "bad people"; but they were pretty seriously brainwashed by the guy on top.

Without knowing specific details of what these sanctions actually involve, look at it this way. The Russians are whining about and trying to get rid of the sanctions very hard, even via using Trump. It is an obvious and undeniable conclusion that the sanctions must be hurting Russia. Most likely, economically. Most likely, any further sanctions will hurt them even more and with an already struggling economy.

The sanctions actually strengthen the local elite, but of course they need to object to them and criticize the US. Both are done for their domestic politics. In the longer run it makes Russia stronger.
