Wasn't that called Home Economics and only girls took it?
Greatest class I ever took. A room full of girls that wanted to help me figure out cooking and sewing.

Didn’t tell them my grandma had already taught me that.

Just needed to lean into their offers to help. It’s there that I learned women are ultra competitive amongst each other, which has served me very well in life.

Like shooting fish in a barrel.

A work ethic.

As someone who hires university educated people, it blows my mind how fucking lazy and downright useless most recent graduates are.

I know I'm coming across as a cranky old coot, however, I can't believe how young white Canadian males are such cry babies.

They interview well, but within 3 weeks start to whine and complain about having to simply work.

I can teach you your profession, but I can't teach you initiative or a work ethic.

This reminds me of a woman I once knew. Her children had started grade school, so she was able to work part time. She asked a fellow who was looking for part time help, but she confessed she had no accounting skills. He said I can train you. I can show you which columns to add and all that stuff. What I cannot teach you, is your attitude. Will you arrive on time, put in all the hours I will pay you for? Will you treat the clients with respect? ...etc? Happily, she had the right attitude, and she was hired. I have shared this story with my own, now adult, children. They understand.

When I was in high school, the only guys who signed up for cooking and sewing, were guys who had zero interest in girls. This was at a time when being openly gay was risky.

Boys in school need to learn how to protect themselves from hot chicks. Maybe a before and after picture for 10 years of marriage would help. This lesson can also be learned in anatomy class - how there is not enough blood in a man's body to run the brain and a raging boner at the same time.

I found this on Quora. What else is there?

  1. The ability to listen. No one teaches you how to listen. You learn it the hard way.
  2. How to have sex (make love), you learn it from third parties that teach you rubbish. Sex is a leading cause of marriage break down.
  3. How to select the right partner. Your life partner will determine 90% of the time the quality of the life you live.
  4. How to make money, the school only teaches you how to make money for businesses, so to make money, you have to teach yourself how to start a business.
  5. How to fail honorably. No one teaches you how to fail. Every billionaire failed at least 5 times, before finding success and I mean major failures, like when Mark Zuckerberg lost 4 billion dollars in a day. How many of you will almost commit suicide if you lost 0.5 percent of that?
  6. How to be an adult, we all learn it the hard way.
  7. How to live without focusing on material things, or being dependent on them.
  8. How to meditate, you decide to learn it yourself.
  9. Self-defense should be taught more often in school. It would stop needless wastes of life during robbery attacks.
  10. How to laugh death in the face, and live life as a full human unafraid of the challenges of the world, as nothing is as scary as the fear of death and if we can overcome death, we can overcome all other challenges. In more apt terms, they should teach more people how to put death in their pockets.
I was hopeful but the list is full of flaws Quora is Walmart with a flower in it's har.

Haha... I'd have a great time learning that in school! But I had a good time learning along the way, too.

My vote: #4 - everything about money. How to manage it, how to make it, how to keep it.

At school, children are only taught by teachers, who are your typical 9-5 job types.
The issue is that you can't teach children about running/starting/managing businesses from elementary and high school teachers.
Even if money is taught in a course, it's only for a single course to get a mark on your report card.
If you don't learn how to satisfy your girl someone else will I say lol. Helps milage too.

Teaching grit, determination, and perserverance.
That is true, but only because it cannot be taught. However it can be learned, but only by doing. Thus you can also learn grit, determination & perseverance when you are working alone. People who give up too easily will never learn grit, determination, & perseverance. They will also not learn to do new things.

How to manage money is the biggest neglected topic.
That must be not taught on purpose though. Society needs people who don't have money and cannot manage money.

Students in high-school need to learn the jobs of tomorrow:

A) How to file government paperwork that no one reads.
B) Working at a McDonald's.
C) Working at a Tim Horton's.
D) How to look busy in an office when you have nothing to do, which is usually the entire day.

With this knowledge, people will be job ready for about 85% of the Canadian "jobs" out there, jobs is in quotations because I'm using the term loosely, because a real job is an actual contribution to people's lives, while a "job" is just selling you junk and looking busy, to hide the fact you are USELESS.

None of my school teachers were qualified to teach
such a subject. I had to pick up those skills from reading
MAD magazines.
