I found this on Quora. What else is there?

  1. The ability to listen. No one teaches you how to listen. You learn it the hard way.
  2. How to have sex (make love), you learn it from third parties that teach you rubbish. Sex is a leading cause of marriage break down.
  3. How to select the right partner. Your life partner will determine 90% of the time the quality of the life you live.
  4. How to make money, the school only teaches you how to make money for businesses, so to make money, you have to teach yourself how to start a business.
  5. How to fail honorably. No one teaches you how to fail. Every billionaire failed at least 5 times, before finding success and I mean major failures, like when Mark Zuckerberg lost 4 billion dollars in a day. How many of you will almost commit suicide if you lost 0.5 percent of that?
  6. How to be an adult, we all learn it the hard way.
  7. How to live without focusing on material things, or being dependent on them.
  8. How to meditate, you decide to learn it yourself.
  9. Self-defense should be taught more often in school. It would stop needless wastes of life during robbery attacks.
  10. How to laugh death in the face, and live life as a full human unafraid of the challenges of the world, as nothing is as scary as the fear of death and if we can overcome death, we can overcome all other challenges. In more apt terms, they should teach more people how to put death in their pockets.

Haha... I'd have a great time learning that in school! But I had a good time learning along the way, too.

My vote: #4 - everything about money. How to manage it, how to make it, how to keep it.

At school, children are only taught by teachers, who are your typical 9-5 job types.
The issue is that you can't teach children about running/starting/managing businesses from elementary and high school teachers.
Even if money is taught in a course, it's only for a single course to get a mark on your report card.

Intuition.

It is our super intelligence. It connects our mind, experiences, skills, lessons, consciousness, everything together and guides us.

Here is a good video on what this really means.

I've always said it's a mistake not to teach basic household finance. Everything from savings, RRSP, how to buy a house, negotiate loans, real cost of utilities, real cost of debt. How to shop properly.

I think society would be much healthier if they had a required course the last year of high school.

You can do that?
About 99% of the time, yes. But then, there is always that one Monday morning after a night of indian food and beer that simply cannot be denied - it's just THAT nasty!

I heard that Ontario high schools now have a course, it's called Adulting, or something like that. In this course you learn the basics of being a grown up, such as how to keep track of your finances, how to prepare a basic meal or two, that includes protein, carbs, and vedgies. How to change a tire, and other basics that adults ought to know. I think a course like this is long overdue.

My unpopular opinion is that learning important skills don't necessarily need to be taught in schools or formal education. Things like understanding debt or doing your personal taxes - These aren't taught in schools but they're easily learned in under an hour. There's so much knowledge out there in the world that a person can or needs to gain that schools just don't have the time for it. Schools provide the base foundation of knowledge and skills, but it's up to each person to take themselves further.

You forgot to mention one very important part which is experience. Experience dealing with conflict, bad teachers, good teachers, good marks, bad marks, inter personal politics, friends, break ups heart aches, success, failure, fights, conflicts, rewards, etc...they all contribute to your experience and most kids don’t even notice. What’s important with school is they give you this experience while maintaining a safety net. You can still learn all these other things not taught in school, but school gives you a unique opportunity at experience.

Experience will improve all your skills and create new ones where the sum of the individual ones is greater then the whole and greater experience enables greater synergy.
